Hi,

I have been trying months upon months to update my website on dmz. Numerous emails over the months to dmz and nothing. The description of my website is not even close. I do not sell Royalty free images and would like dmz to update my listing.

These listings are causing an issue and I need them corrected.

[Website details removed]

What do I do to get dmz to update my listings? The editors wont update it, the staff email wont change it?

Any info would be great!

Updates can and will only be processed by handing in update requests. Since most update requests have been dealt with in a recent rush, I guess yours has been processed as well.

Did you check the categories or did you only check the search results? Please note that search results usually are outdated by one or more weeks due to technical issues. Always look into the categories themselves.

Interesting that my description has been updated, but this STILL is not my current meta tag description!

I just checked the categories. It seems that the editors add whatever they want for description? This is not my meta tag description. I dont understand how dmoz can add any description they feel. It does not help any website owner in promoting a website. The "New" description listed is a poor representation of my website.

Thank you for your time

Because it's our directory and the whole point of it is to tell surfers about websites and what's on them. It would be very rare for metatag descriptions to meet our guidelines which is why we almost invariably have to write our own.
It does not help any website owner in promoting a website.
We aren't trying to promote websites. If that's what you want, I suggest that you find some some other means of doing so.

Thanks for the info.

Is there a way to request removal of my listings? Dont see anywhere on how to do this?

Thank you

We don't remove listings on request. We do remove listings if/when we discover that they no longer meet our Site Selection Criteria.

If some search engines are preferring our description to yours and you're unhappy about that, you might want to investigate the NOODP metatag.

.

I believe the two listings I have listed are considered "Mirror". Both listings take viewer to the same website.

Consideration should be given in removing all links of said website, they no longer meet the selection criteria. As you stated - I should find a better place.

Have a great day!

It is completely appropriate for a site to be listed in a Topical and Regional category, and you have already been advised how to avoid the use of ODP descriptions by search engines.

It is ironic that you are still complaining, despite your site suggestions and your requests for description changes having already been reviewed by volunteers, when most complaints here are because a volunteer has not acted in a time frame which suits the webmaster.
You just can't please some people.

I am NOT having a problem with ODP descriptions. MY problem is the description that DMOZ has given mysite. Every other search engine uses the proper description except DMOZ! AND I did not suggest to put my site here. And I have been trying to get my description changed to the CORRECT one for months!

If you can NOT use the proper description for my website I want my website removed from dmoz. Your volunteers have hacked my description so it misrepresents me and my work. It only makes sense to have a proper description of a website. It is ironic that a volunteer has chosen to misrepresent my website.

Put the proper description that represents my website and I will STOP complaining. Yes STILL complaining . This is how moderators handle themselves?

Perhaps if you calmed down and read some of the posts above, you would find your concerns had already been addressed, more than once.
To repeat:
  • Editors write descriptions based on the editing guidelines, not on the metatags of the site.
  • Volunteers use their own resources to find and list suitable sites to build the directory, and neither add nor remove sites at the request of their owners.
  • Webmasters are free to promote their sites in any way they choose, but DMOZ is not a listing service, and our primary goal is not to help with site promotion.
  • There is a long-established means of ensuring that search engines don't use the ODP description, and that has already been explained to you.

Calm down..... What are you talking about? Perhaps you should read what I am complaining about it. My concerns have NOT been addressed. I have a poor description on DMOZ and it has NOT been rewritten.

1) Your editors have destroyed my description. PEROID! I realize it is NOT based on meta tags. Every other website in those categories is focused around titles and meta tags. REGARDLESS of what you say. Look for yourself. For some reason my website is the only one that does NOT have a proper description.

2) As I have already stated this in NOT a search engine description problem.

I am AND have been requesting DMOZ to properly write a description that fits my website.

I have been asking for someone to rewrite my description. Is this to much for you to understand? Something so simple made difficult....

You asked. Now it is incumbent on you to understand the answer you got.

I don't think further explanations will help.
