Please could someone tell me the best way to update a site description.

The company who I work for has just noticed that their description, although not misleading, doesn't really represent what they do and they'd like to update it.

Please could someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Go to the category page where it's listed.
Click on the update listing link at the top of the page
Follow your nose.

Resist the temptation to keyword stuff or otherwise hype the title and description. Whatever's published should conform with our editor guidelines.

Please also note that the purpose of the description is not to tell what the company does (or what it wants the public to think it does) but rather to give the surfer some insight into what can be found on the website.

I would just like to echo the last two comments.

Almost every update I get is for an already ODP guideline compliant listing. The update is looked at and if it is trying to either keyword stuff or change the description from a description of what the site offers to what the company offer it is deleted without changing the site.

Thanks for the info.

Without naming the organisation I work for, it is a registered charity that acts as a venue for different entertainment, educational and other charity events. At the moment our discription refers mainly to one event that takes place every year - it doesn't represent what we do on the other 85% of the year.

In order to update our information do I need to be an editor? I've looked at the listing on the directory and couldn't see an update link.

Thanks

If you're looking at the dmoz.org version of the category page, the update listing link is at the top of the page. If you're looking at somebody else's, it probably isn't.

You don't have to be an editor.

Be certain that the main thrust of the website supports what you are requesting.

Many nonprofit sites seem singularly focused on the 'big event" and other meaningful content is shoved to the background. Neither surfers nor editors should have to hunt for content.

Case in point, the real estate agent whose site was plastered with pictures of his dog had no basis to complain that the description also focused on the dog.

The best site descriptons focus on the original content that is found on the site.
