I have read the note above and have submitted the URL as described. Please consider this update as i am only trying to use my new URL which has Verisign 128 bit encryption for my customers credit card purchases. This site gives my customers the security needed to make thier shopping experience 100% Safe. The site URL you have listed currently does not offer any security that can assure them no risk. Please consider as we are simply trying to send our customers to a more safe and secure URL to visit. Switch URL would be that the current url: www.hubcaps.tv be simply switched to www.hubcapnation.com

Thank You,
Rick Dynek

We have no easy way of verifying that the two sites are really the same business and not just a copy.

What you will need to do to make sure this happens is to redirect from the listed site to the new one in a very obvious way. Otherwise I doubt that the update request will be accepted.

I was considering the redirect like stated but i was afraid the DMOZ may consider banning my site for doing this.

If you start up a new site, and change the listed site so it redirects to it, then submit an update URL request, you have put all evidence in place for changing the listing, not having it banned.

Also, reumors/reports/innuendos about us arbitrarily banning sites, is grossly exaggerated.

301 permanent redirect. Talk to your geeks and they should be able to make it happen.

Now I have changed my .htaccess file for a 301 permanent redirect and have emailed the category editor but still have not seen any attempt to correct the URL. How would I know if the Editor is even active anymore with his category or how often he even checks his messages?

Your update will be processed when an editor gets around to editing in that category. We have no way of knowing when that will be. Editors are not encouraged to enter into email dialogue and you are unlikely to get a response or the process speeded up by contacting editors directly. All I can advise is patience.

OK thanks. Does anyone know if I may encounter problems with my Ranking on major search engines with the Permanent Redirect that is now implemented on my domain?

On this forum we are dealing with the ODP, which has no knowledge or Ranking on search engines. Maybe some kind expert can send you a private message about it, but if not, I would suggest asking in one of the many webmaster forums that are out there - they can proabbly give you some pretty authoritative advice about that. Thanks.

Well I know a little about it. With the permanent redirect Google is going transfer the page rank of the redirected url to the new one (the one you redirect to). It might take a couple of months though. I notice you redirect to a non www url - you want to be consistent with your domain - if all your links go to www.whatever.com then you want your 301 redirect to do that as well so that Google does not split your ranking across your www domain and your non www domain. I suggest if you have any further questions about this matter you take it to one of the forums out there that answers questions about this sort of thing. I am by no means an expert in these types of matter so take my advice with a big grain of salt. Hope this helps -
