...as they claim my site fills a huge gap. Unique content all over (hand written) about a very professional industry topic that any company uses. Some Adsense ads and no affiliate links except 10 supporting Amazon product links (literature supporting the area).

Now, submitting for many months I wonder: are ALL my users wrong as ODP editors obviously believe the site is noth worth indexing?

Very frustrating indeed!

It's far more likely that no volunteer ODP editor has yet had the inclination and opportunity to evaluate your website. For a more detailed answer, do please have a look at this forum's FAQ.

Just a thought, but had you considered that by submitting many months you have been causing a lot of extra work to the volunteer editor by violating Site Suggestion Instructions, which explicity say to suggest the URL once to the single best category?
The most likely reason for a listable site not to have been listed is that it hasn't been reviewed yet. Editors are all volunteers, there is no way to predict when one my take interest in reviewing any particular category let alone a site suggestion within it. Each suggestion you make for the same url to the same category overwrites previous ones. If that volunteer editor is reviewing sites by suggestion date your resuggestion falls to bottom of the pool in favor of older ones. If you are suggesting to different categories you are causing editors to spend time removing duplicate suggestions.
Since you have suggested your site (Thank you) all you can do is continue to make the content helpful to your users. If it is listable, then the ODP editors will eventually want to list it. If it isn't listable or just hasn't been listed yet it does not mean that the editors don't agree with your users. And even if it did why would it matter? Editors are not your target, your users are the ones you should be concerned with pleasing and by the sounds of it they are happy with the product you are providing.
In any case, there is no reason to continue resuggesting the same site (or related ones). At best it only acts to slow down the review process further.

Hope that helps.
