Rather than being so judgmental -- that is, imputing harshness to people who were giving information without any extraneous verbiage, you should consider whether the information given was helpful. And martinpaling was clearly trying to be helpful -- by pointing out that you had been given some advice already, and it was really IMPORTANT advice.
In fact, SEO is not our business here, but martinpaling noticed a possible problem. Not a problem with the ODP: you know that your site is listed. But a problem with Google. Since the biggest spammers on the net are all generating thousands of pages by copying content, Google has to work very hard to eliminate duplicate content. And that work may impact people like you, who have multiple URLs (not obviously related) pointing to the exact same content, and haven't been careful to indicate which version is "original."
If I were you, I'd go back to the google group where you originally got the advice (or some other reputable webmaster forum) and ask about exactly what you need to do. (This forum is not about HTTP, HTML, etc.) There are several techniques: depending on your server technology and your development tools, one might work better for you.
And now, my piece of free advice: you have a farm (ranch, stables, whatever), right? I assume it is in a fixed location in a particular town (or outside of town, but in a particular county), right? And the site has already proven it can be listed in the ODP, right?
Therefore: give yourself a boost, do us a favor, and suggest that site also in a REGIONAL category: either Wisconsin/Localities/whatever or Wisconsin/Counties/whatever. If my assumptions are correct, it is virtually certain to get a second ODP listing. And we'd be grateful.
