does this mean that the catergogy does not currently have an editior. If so then how long will it take to change the results

I am looking at Top: Computers: Hardware: Peripherals: Displays: Manufacturers

my company is completely in the wrong section and it needs to be fixed

No, it means that the category is a candidate for internal or external editor applications. It is a recruiting tool. Nothing more, nothing less.

There are FAQ items that address your other questions. Since you were too lazy to read the FAQ before posting, I am too lazy to paste in the link. Seems fair to me.

"need" is a relative term, what seems "needed" by you might not be "needed" by us.
But if you think that your site would better fit in another category you can ask us to re-evaluate it. Go to the category it is listed in, click the 'update listing' link and tell us why you think it should be moved. An editor will look at your request and decide if we agree with your thoughts. A move will only occur of we can find evidence on the site to support your request.

need

Surely it is the responsibility of dmoz to be correct. if not then why would we use it? When I say my companies entry needs to be fixed - I truly mean it.

firstly it is in completely the wrong category and second it makes a completely wrong statement about what the company does.

My need is really only based on having the right facts .

Discussions about responsibilities and needs won't actually achieve anything constructive.

If you haven't yet made an update listing request as advised by pvgool above, please do so :).

There are only a very few people who can fix that, and those people are extremely overworked. They are aware of the address issue, though.

However, you and everybody else who might consider using that address to report listing issues such as sites being listed in an irrelevant category should be aware that the staff email was never the right place to report those things.

We don't know who is being lazy. Donski, you've never done anything I needed: in fact, you've never done anything I care about (so far as I know). Should I say then that you're lazy?

Or should I assume you're busily working on something that matters to someone else?

Or perhaps I could assume that you're actively working to harm someone?

No, I shouldn't.

Any of those assumptions would be prejudicial. An ethical person wouldn't such assumptions, and a polite person wouldn't show such prejudices.

Think about it.

Same people, but update requests are prominent and sometimes[1] highlight a QC issue. That's why most of us give them priority. I can't speak for the rest of the directory but in UK they are usually handled within a few hours.

[1] More often, they are an attempt to KW stuff the description or title. Those are not actioned.
