Was I Banned?

Hi,

I had a site that was listed in DMOZ, for many years, and it may have been recently removed for a penality. There were several other deep links in specific categories as well, which may have caused the problem. I did submit some deep links and they were added. I guess this was spamming...?

If possible, can someone tell me if the site was banned or excluded. And if so is it possible to resubmit the site again?

Site:
<url removed per forum tos>

Was listed in:
https://dmoztools.net/Regional/Caribbean/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides/

Thanks,

Neal

Yes. (Hint: It's not because of the multiple submission of deeplinks. It's because it's not the sort of site we're looking for.)
Yes -- but it won't do you any good. It won't be listed unless you make a significant change in content.

Banned?

Arubin I looked at the site and can't tell why it was banned. I'm new at this so I'm really not sure of what to look for in a site. Can you please explain?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply.

arubin,

Thank you very much for the response.

Mmm...

I know this is subjective but I find this hard to believe!!

This site offers an extensive amount of Caribbean related content. I am including a sampling of links that represent content the site offers. Caribbean Mag . com is one of the more complete resources of Caribbean information.

If I had to guess an editor just took a "quick look" and just browsed the search directory and concluded the site was "just" another collection of links (though this is one of the most complete collections of Caribbean sites as well).

Thanks again for the response. I doubt there is anything you can do, but if so it would be greatly appreciated. I think an editor "missed" a lot of the great content the site has to offer travelers to the Caribbean.

Regards,

Neal

Jackson wrote this while I was typing my last reply. I guess I kinda agree with Jackson. I am at a bit of a loss as to why Caribbean Mag . com is not the type of site DMOZ is looking for.

Though my own opinion is skewed, I would say this is 'exactly' the type of site DMOZ is looking for....? It's a very useful site for someone wanting to visit the Caribbean.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply / help out.

Regards,

Neal

I haven't looked at the site's ODP history but I'll be darned if I can find your "extensive" content through all the ads. Even going to the first couple of links you gave and picking my way around the ads, I'm not seeing anything close to extensive. Just my :2cents: .

I looked, within seconds, I looked no more. A site that is ALL ads/links on the front page just loses my interest.
Them's my thoughts.

Ok,

I have taken some the criticisms and critiques posted on this thread and have implemented a number of changes to the categorization and organization of information available on Caribbean Mag . com including streamlining ads. I believe this presents a much better view of the sites content.

Again here are a couple of sample URL's for review:

Home: <url removed>

Cayman Islands: <deeplink removed>
Jamaica: <deeplink removed>
Belize: <deeplink removed>

If anyone would like to comment I will appreciate it. If this is more in line with what DMOZ is looking for, should I resubmit now. If not I will simply keep building the site and resubmit again later...

Thanks,

Neal

I'd like to suggest here that designing your site for dmoz is probably not your optimum course of action. Design it instead for your users, and let us decide whether that matches our needs or not.

If, after you've optimized the site for the benefit of the user audience you're aiming at, you end up with a site that has substantial unique content in its subject area not available elsewhere on the internet and easily reachable without slogging through a bunch of distracting advertising, then you may suggest once, using the "suggest a url" link in the most appropriate category, that we have a look at it.

If the content has changed substantially, you may want to state that fact [in brackets, like this] in your proposed description of the site.

This site has been archived and is no longer accepting new content.
