Hello,

I'd like to know what are the requirements to be listed in DEVICE DRIVERS category in Dmoz.org?

My project is called www.driversdot.com and it is only 1 month old. It's main and only (now) purpose is to be a Drivers Search Engine.
Can someone tell me whether I can try to suggest it now or should I wait forexample till my Google PageRank will be over 0/10 or when I will develop more advanced version of this engine?

What do you think?

Thanks in advances for any suggestions!

Compare your site to those listed in the category now ( http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Device_Drivers I assume?). Is your site better than, or as good as, the best sites in the category? Can the web surfer find things using your site that they couldn't find in any of the other sites? That's the kind of thing we are interested in. Google rank passes us by unnoticed ;)

Hi,

Is your site better than, or as good as, the best sites in the category?

Well I think YES, my search engine will give users fast access to fast growing database of indexed URLs of newest device drivers. I don't think that any of listed in Dmoz.org web site can now provide such a free of any charge service. What is your opinion about it? :)

P.S. Can someone from USA tell me whether my site loads quick or not? Can you do some ping tests and post them to me? THANKs!

Thanks,
goe

It is fast from the UK. Can't say from the US.

However to give yourself a better chance of being listed I would recommend you build up your driver database significantly before submitting your site.

I like the idea of being able to quickly find a driver quickly by typing the name of the device into a seach box - some of the other sites take a while to navigate. But your site won't be useful to users until you have a large number of drivers listed.

(One of the sites in the category claims to have over 100,000.. whereas your site currently only shows 120..)

Yes, that is true but can you exactly show where this site offers you the access to such a big colection of device drivers? There are only to possibilities:

1. This 100'000 pieces content is paid to be accessed.
2. Or they just write such infos for better marketing messages (in my opinion)

The access on my site will be free (truly) and my database will rise with minimum 15 new device drivers every week. Because our small team work very hard for that.

But do you think that even if we put a 1000 device drivers URLs to our database we won't be listed in Dmoz.org? Looking on this category there are many sites there that aren't giving anything new to users and there are very often a list of links to manufactures sites with pleanty of affliate links over and under them...

I will porobably wait a little longer before sending a request to DMOZ but I hope that when I do there would be some one to see that it is even a little useful... :)

Thanks,
goe

Look at the best four or five directories already listed. If it is easy for a visitor to see that your site has content that's not in those, then there is a chance it will be listed. If it is NOT easy to see that, then the site will almost certainly be rejected.
