What Category for me?

I just started a site for work

http://www.dfdems.com

I want to submit the site to search engines and here but I want to make sure that I get it in the right category.

The site is set up mainly for people who are employed by the Detroit Fire Department EMS division. In the coming months I would like to expand the site to add content for who ever may be interested in Detroit EMS.

It is an unofficial page, not supported by the city, etc.

I have looked at the categories but to be honest I don’t want to have to do it twice, would prefer to do it right the first time. I have no clue what would be the best category for this sight.

Medical etc wouldn’t fit as we offer 0 medical content etc, on and on....

Any suggestions as to what category?

And yes, having read the numerous pages getting here about the top 10 things to not put in a website (huge graphics, etc) I plan on removing them right

Sorry we don't provide help finding the right categories for submitters - or we wouldn't have any time to edit!

You can either try and find a category that you think fits your site best, and submit there, or alternatively there are a number of sites on the internet that do provide advice of this sort.

You might find some sites in the following dmoz categories that do provide such advice, although I obviously can't comment on how good it is :)

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Chats_and_Forums/

It doesn't matter if the category you submit to isn't perfect, an editor will move the site to a more appropriate one - but it does speed up review time if you get it right first time!

HTH

Andy :)
