What does a star next to a directory link mean?

On this page:

JavaScript.com has a star on its right side. I looked and looked
for an explanation what the star means: does it mean the site
rates `one star out of five' or that it is a top-rated site or what?
Where is the answer to my question and why is it so easy to
overlook? I think the answer could be put under
http://dmoz.org/help/helpmain.html
or
http://dmoz.org/help/cats.html

I think the latter. Although I believe the exact designation has changed from "cooled" to something else?

It means that the editor intended that site to stand out in that particular category.

It can be used for slightly different things, but the general intention is just that it gets listed first in the category. It should not be taken that it affects rankings, since we don't rank sites. It does not affect how it show up in a DMOZ/ODP search and as far a I knoes noone else pays any attention to it.
