What exactly is expected from an inspirant editor?

Sandeep

I have applied for becoming the editor of dmog.com several times but in all the cases they have rejected my application. Can anyone guide me that what exactly is expected from an inspirant editor. Hope to have some positive feedback soon.

1) Read the thread FAQ and General Advice at the top of this forum - all our information for new people applying as editors are accessible from there.

2) Read the rejection-mail you received. There are many different of them, so each does only show few possible mistakes. Maybe the reviewer has even put a comment at the end.

Regardless of me not being an editor, and not to be mean at all...

Just wanted to say, you could spell dmoz.org right...

There might be a language barrier; your English shows indications that it might not be your native language. Are there other languages you know better? Have you considered applying for categories there?

Not being a native speaker is not a bar to editing; you'll just have to be very very careful. Listen to the story-telling Bohemian (speil-czech), and so on.

If you're getting only a generic reply, then probably the answer to the "why was I rejected?" question is in the editors' guidelines (which you'll have to know anyway to edit, so go ahead and memorize them. Your application is the test.)

I'd just like to echo hutcheson. (Not that he needs an echo.)

If you can write well in a foreign language, consider applying to edit a category in http://dmoz.org/World/ - there are a lot of categories in World just crying for an enthusiastic editor. (We have English ones too, but the need is higher in many other languages.)
