Hello:

Many months ago, I submitted my site, http://drgaryseeman.com, which describes my psychotherapy practice. My site never got listed, even though I followed the guidelines to my best understanding. Is there a reason that my site never got listed? I submitted many months ago and never got notice of a rejection or a need to submit to a different category. I don't think that I autosubmitted. The particular directory may be http://dmoz.org/Science/Social_Sciences/Psychology/Clinical_and_Counseling/.

If, for some reason, my submission was problematic, how do I resubmit and get listed this time, without getting dinged for multiple submissions?

Thanks,
Gary Seeman, Ph.D.

No problem. About three weeks ago an editor looked at it for the first time, noted that you have more than one office location and moved it to Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Counties/Marin/Health where it awaits review by a regional editor.

The review process takes time, sometimes more than two years.

Be patient, and feel free to come back to this thread (please bookmark it) after a full month has passed (no cheating, we are sticklers about this) and ask for a new status check.

As a broad generalization, wait times for reviews in Regional are often less than in other parts of the directory.

Hope this helps.

thanks, I'm encouraged!

Dear Spectregunner,

Sorry for the response to your signature advice rather than your thread. I'm just learning to use this forum. I'll schedule a month's wait time into my Palm Pilot and return for status listing.

follow up for site status

Hello:

I humbly ask for your help after submitting my site around the turn of the year and checking its status 6 months ago. I was told to wait 6 months before asking again, and I've been good ...

What is the status of my site, http://drgaryseeman.com? I understand that it was to be reviewed for listing at the Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Counties/Marin/Health directory.

Some of my colleagues who submitted at the same time were listed half a year ago because they have a single office rather than also having one part-time office in an adjacent county. That doesn't seem quite fair. Is there a way to expedite this? Is there an editor even looking at submissions for the directory above? There is very original content on my site -- see the dissertation posted in a text-searchable PDF, which many people visit -- more people would probably like to find it.

Thanks,
Gary Seeman

Still waiting.

It may not be fair, but, as there are not many sites which should be listed in that category, editors may not spend much time looking at it. For that matter, IMHO (as a California editor), your site doesn't belong in that category, either, but in [cat=Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Metro_Areas/San_Francisco_Bay_Area/Health/Mental_Health]San Francisco Bay Area: Health: Mental Health[/cat].

Others will have to comment whether I'm right, and, if so, whether you should resubmit to that category. I should add that I can't edit in either the category it's in or the category I think it should be in.

so ...

Arubin,

You may well be right about the directory you mentioned being more appropriate. I did not make the choice to submit to that regional directory, which has certainly delayed matters. Is there a way to submit to the directory you suggest and get an expedited review? It's not just my practice that gets more widely known, it's also a piece of research that resolves several controversies in the community of Jungian psychologists. Those who do find it read it with enthusiasm and are starting to invite me to teach on the subject.

Best wishes,
Gary Seeman

The short answer is that there is no such thing as an expedited review -=- and the forum rules specifically prohibit editors from reviewing sites on the basis of forum posts -=- that keeps the playing field as level as possible.

You have been, however, granted a "pass" to resubmit to the Bay Area cat that arubin mentioned, which will actually let you have two separate regional submissions awaiting review -- so you are certainly not being penalized. As far as your colleagues go, there is no way to tell "why" an editor chose to list them when they were listed -- perhaps it was because they are in a single city as you speculated, or it may simply be that the editor liked their tie better.

In any event, go ahead and do the resubmit thing, cross your fingers and toes, and wait. You can come back here in one month for a status on the bay area resubmission, and in six months for a status on the other submission.

If it is any consolation, earlier today I was working in an industry-specific Business category and came across a heap of more than 350 sites that had been submitted to a category where we don't list any sites. It houses an alphabar and submitters are supposed to submit to the letter of the alphabet htat matches the first letter of the name of their company. Some had been sitting there for more than two years, and now that I have moved them, some will be edited very soon, others may wait indefinitely until an editor gets to them. Some will sit and wait for a while and get moved again, since I don't speak all of the languages involved, and without a doubt I moved some to incorrect language-specific categories. It is not hard science when we move sites from one category to another, especially if we are not perfectly familiar with both -- we do the best we can, and try not to intentionally penalize anyone.
