My wife is a psychotherapist with a private pratice in Letchworth.

Her pratice draws clients from Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire borders.

There appear to be several possible categories. The ones that occur to me are:-
  • Top: Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Health: Mental Health: Counselling Services
  • Top: Health: Mental Health: Counseling Services
  • Top: Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: England: Hertfordshire: Letchworth Garden City

None of these seem an ideal match. My wife trained initially as a counsellor and then did several years further training to become a psychotherapist. To group her under counselling seems to me to be as inappropriate for her as it would be for a psychiatrist.

Top: Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Health: Mental Health has sub categories of Psychiatry and Psychology. If it also had one of Psychotherapy that might be a good place to add a new category at the same time as her website.

From the invitation at the bottom of these categories it would appear that none of these categories have any editors at the moment. Is that true? If so who, if anyone, would actually consider entries in these categories?

If it helps, Psychiatry is the field of psychology as practiced as a specialty by a medical doctor (MD). Otherwise it is psychology/psychotherapy/etc

When you read the FAQ, you must have missed the part that specifically addressed this question -- wich is in the top three most asked questions on this forum. :D

Here is the link.

Why does there has to be someone who would choose the least relevant category?

If your wife's practice is based in Letchworth, that's where it should be listed :).

That might be true if her site actually gave her address. It doesn't. And for good reason. If people generally knew that people comming to the address were coming for therapy then their confidencially would be compromised.

I also suspect that anyone searching the directory in a hierarcial fashion for a psychotherapist would be unlikely to arrive quickly at the directory for Letchworth. That is why I didn't spend too long dismissing this entry as relevant. Anybody looking for a psychotherapist would expect to be looking under some sort of health directory surely.

The whole point of Regional categories is that websites are listed where they are based - hence my advice. UK level is a kinda localised Topical and your wife's site might be additionally listable there. Suggest it to the category of your choice and the editors will move it if there's a better one.

We don't require that a website includes an address. A statement that the organisation or whatever is based in Letchworth is fine.

However, current UK legislation has rather stricter requirements for commercial websites. If your wife charges for her services, you might like to check out this summary.

I have read the summary given and also the article given.

Despite what it says in the article you quote the actual Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 contain the following exclusion.
does not cover requirements such as those applicable to goods as such, to the delivery of goods or to services not provided by electronic means

As my wife's services are not provided by electronic means I understand that these regulations specifically exclude themselves from applying.:D
