Hello All,

I'd recently applied to be an editor with ODP. My application was however rejected on the basis that the category is already well represented. The "additional reviewer's comment" suggested that i should reapply to be an editor with some other category as "The directory does not approve new editors for categories as large as this one."

I would sincerly want to be an editor with ODP.Can you show me the roadmap to success.

Hi dushtdaman,

There is a specific forum for questions about becoming an editor - you find it here: http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showforum=11 . Read the two threads at the head of that page, especially the one called "FAQ and General Advice" - there are some good advice and pointers there :) Good luck!

Apparently you got feedback that the category you applied for is too complex to give it to a totally new editor. This passage of http://dmoz.org/help/become.html also shows you what to do:
I quote:

"Do you have any tips on filling out the "become and editor" application?

There is no magic formula for creating the perfect application. Your application will be reviewed on a number of unique factors relative to the category in which you applied. In general, applicants should take care to apply to a small, underdeveloped category at first. Generally, applicants who apply for too broad of a category are asked to narrow their focus, and apply for a lower level category.
We view the application as an indication of how you will edit. A thoughtful, well-written application that is free of hype has a far greater chance of getting accepted than one that is sloppy, poorly-written, and full of promotional, subjective language. Finally, be truthful about your affiliations with any Web sites. Webmasters, site owners, and friends and relatives of webmasters and site owners are free to join. However, you should be up front and honest about these affiliations."
End of quote.

Reapply for a small catefory and make sure to take great care of the things mentioned above.

Good Luck, Phil

Pick a category for something you're interested in, your favorite band, artist, writer, TV show, style of cooking, what you collect, a hobby, the town you grew up in, the college you went too, a place you visited once, what you do for a living, your family name even may have a category. Just look for something around and less than about 100 sites and find something that will be fun to add sites to. ODP is about searching out new sites and adding them, that process is usually more fun when you get something out of the sites you're looking for on a personal level.
