What Me Worry?

I have been trying to get www.filesuit.com into the Directory for many months now; I initially submitted it to the wrong category (I have since read the guidelines more carefully and learned that sites which specialize in pointing to other websites are a no-no in categories that are not explicitly for referral sites).

Since I resubmitted to what I believe is the proper category I wonder if now I am being blocked, as if I am trying to have my site listed multiple times...

I have also submitted www.johntfloyd.com and www.litigationhouston.com to their proper categories, but alas after 6 months still nothing...

I volunteered to help edit the Houston Texas attorney category, and stated that I work for filesuit.com, just so that I am completely honest about about a related financial interest.

I wonder if I have been denied across the board or if the process is just really slow. I know most everyone who volunteers legitimately has a passion for making the ODP the most relevant directory on the web; so I'm definately not complaining- just want to do what I can to be more efficient and hopefully help in any way I can.

Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Really? I believe it's less than one month.

Did you read the part of our submission guidelines which asked you to Identify the single best category for your site?
If so, why did you suggest it to five - one of them twice?
If not, why did you agree that you had during the submission procedures?

Not to mention the other violations of our guidelines.
Or do you think al those pages with "Coming Soon! Click here to sponsor this page" are the usefull unique content we are looking for. :thumb1:

Oops!

Hey, please do not flame me too bad. It looks like obviously I have a mistake. I think that we have had employees here who have been over zealous- I take full responsibility.

That is why I joined to forum to see what we (read: I) have been doing wrong!

Thank you for the advice.

Please let me see if I can help rectify the situation.

I'd be happy if we could just get www.johntfloyd.com and www.litigationhouston.com listed. They are innocent bystanders.

Thank you again!

Sponsor Links Not Good...

We know there are links for "Sponsor this page" throughout www.filesuit.com, but it *does* have a fair amount of information for consumers.

BTW, I had no idea about the 5 different submissions; hopefully not too many make the same mistake and waste your time.

Thanks again, Jim

As you could and should have read on http://dmoz.org/add.html whne you suggested the site
Do not submit sites "under construction." Wait until a site is complete before submitting it. Sites that are incomplete, contain "Under Construction" notices, or contain broken graphics or links aren't good candidates for the directory.
If I find a site withe several pages with a text of Coming Soon I will keep it for 1 month, if not all pages are changed to real pages the site will be deleted. Other editors may delete it at the first visit, others might give it more time. But at the end you have just wasted our precious time.

I'd be happy if we could just get johntfloyd and litigationhouston listed
As you wrote in your first posting "I have also submitted www.johntfloyd.com and www.litigationhouston.com to their proper categories". That is all you can do. Suggest them once and than just wait. Please read our FAQ for questions like "when will a site be reviewed" and "how long to wait".

Well, for www.johntfloyd.com I believe http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Law/Ser...al_Defense/North_America/United_States/Texas/ is correct, but also notice how if we can get there here: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_.../Houston/Business_and_Economy/Legal_Services/

I believe the first category URL is correct.

For www.litigationhouston.com I believe there is no exact fit: http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Law/Ser...Litigation/North_America/United_States/Texas/ is labeled "Defense Litigation" -which implies legal services for corporations (ie, defense). This lawfirm specializes in litigation against corporations.

http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Law/Ser...alpractice/North_America/United_States/Texas/ is for "Malpractice", which is similar, but malpractice is a subset of litigation...

And again there are the discrepancies between drilling down geographically and by Society:Law

I am sure you can find how I have again done something wrong.

Believe it or not I was trained in website usability by the Neilsen Norman Group. I spent several years managing www.compaq.com (so this might help explain their demise to HP). I hate being so lame at this, and it appears you all are really aggravated by the inefficiencies of others. Just so you know I promise I am trying my hardest to do this the right way.

I believe this is why managing the ODP is work- not something to be taken lightly.

I believe you would be safe in also submitting litigation Houston to http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_.../Houston/Business_and_Economy/Legal_Services/ since that is wher they have their primary offices.

Many businesses are eligible for a listing in both the regional part of the directory (based solely upon where they are located, not upon where they market) and in the topical (by subject) which may also further divide regioally.

Not at all, we're well used to them. I often challenge spin though :D

Finally, be aware that posting here will not expedite the processing of a listing suggestion.

Thanks! No, I know. Hopefully you can tell I am not trying to hide my intentions or anything like that- just want to make sure that the process is done correctly from my end.

I'm not sure why it appears we only submitted www.filesuit.com "less than a month ago"?? I know, even though it probably was me intitially submitting it, and also maybe to the wrong category- I know I first did that back before summer, and also at one time over a year ago...

I wonder if I took out the links to find a lawyer, and killed the "coming soon" 404 so that it is only a legal resource information center- Not a referral service at all- then maybe there is an appropriate category where I could go ahead and work on getting it in there- (carefully of course!). I mean honestly it is not like I am making any money off of it- I just think it is a good site because it explains the kinds of injury litigatioon that people are eligible to proceed with.

Obviously everyone knows that car wrecks are suable, but who all knows that gastric bypass surgery litigation is the nation's fastest growing (that's unique info isn't it?)

Thanks you all, we really appreciate the help and advice!!!!

>> ...work on getting it in there <<

There is no "work" (campaigning, re-suggesting, berating, complaining) or otherwise, that you can do to "get it in there".

One suggestion, to one category (except for several special exceptions), is all there is to do.
