Anyone knows what's happening at Chefmoz.org ?

It has been a few weeks now that I cannot do anything in there; all I get is

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@dmoz.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

The Chefmoz forums only return a blank page.

Actually I thought the problems had been resolved some time ago. At least that was what Marcel wrote.

Just tried: I can login, but am unable to get below country level. Forums are down for me as well.

Out of the frying pan... It appears that there was an initial problem, it was fixed, but it seems to have gone wrong again... Word is that recovery is ongoing.

Fingers crossed. :chef:

Looks like it's still ongoing...
Well yes, it's only been a few days. ;)

In the ODP we have been waiting nearly 3 years for many things to be fixed after the AOL server crash of 2006, so patience is strongly advised.

Still down ...

Still no change at chefmoz. I note that the restore point used after the latest crash was November 2007. Although it may not be possible, for technical and/or resource reasons, to re-establish full editing and forum functions, wouldn't it at least be possible to use a more recent restore point? It's hard to believe that Chefmoz was not fully backed up in the intervening 2 years. All the work of Chefmoz editors since November 2007 is currently invisible to users - and that is, to say the least, a very frustrating experience for the editors involved.

I got this from Marcel in early January:
Staff assures me that it is not dead. They have promised that it will be restored (and there are even plans for an improved ChefMoz 2.0). However, all current staff resources are working on the Dmoz 2.0 rollout right now. I think that the issues that caused the current outage are relatively difficult for staff to fix. Moreover, in November, AOL announced "voluntary" layoffs of 1/3 of their staff, which I assume can't be helping the situation. Staff haven't given me any time frame for a fix.

I'll pass along any information I get from staff.

Regards,

Marcel

I hope they get it done soon ... got an editing "Jonz"!

Since it has been down now for more than half a year, I have started unlisting chefmoz references in the ODP.

I suggest other editors will do the same in their areas.

This issue is probably best discussed in our internal forums... :)

I think elper was referring to pwillener's comment that he was delisting Chefmoz listings in the directory (something unrelated to actually editing at Chefmoz).

True, as it is it took me a couple of rounds with google to find this discussion so I could know what is going on.

Hope Chefmoz comes back.

It ain't perfect but still has possibilities.

Not all chefmoz editors have access to ODP's internal fora ;)

I believe AOL is aware of this, but it's low priority compared to the DMOZ upgrade. :)
