When Added to DMOZ, How Long to Show?

Approximately how long after the editor pushes the "Add" button, does it take for the site to show up in the DMOZ category page?

I just had a DMOZ editor in my logs. I don't see my site listed in the category I applied, so I'm curious if I got accepted. (of course, I understand that just because an editor came to my site, doesn't mean I'm accepted)

Thanks

On the editor server, between a few seconds and a few minutes. Very rarely a few hours.

On the public servers, they are refreshed every few days, sometimes as long as a week.

The RDF for our downstream users is built weekly, but we have no control over how often they refresh their data.

It also doesn't mean that anything was done at all. Maybe the editor was culling dead sites and was just making sure yours worked. Maybe the editor was checking to ensure your site was on-topic for the category. There are any number of reasons why an editor might look at your site and for there to be no action at all on the submission, and at least as many actions an editor can take on a submission that doesn't get it reviewed. The only thing that evidence of an ODP editor in your site logs tells you is that there is evidence of a visit from an ODP editor to your site.

A few minutes to a couple of weeks.

Normally.

It's not something editors worry about. Once it's in the pipeline, it eventually comes out the other end. (Unlike, say, waiting for site review -- which happens only when an editor makes it happen.)

And there are other places much more important than dmoz.org public pages -- such as directory.google.com, which update on their own schedule.

Thanks for such a rapid and helpful reply!

Alright, so if my site is listed, I (a non editor) could view it in anywhere from a few days to a week. Sounds good to me.

That is about right, assuming you are talking about viewing its listing at www.dmoz.org. If you are talking about you being able to view it at a Google (for example), that is a different story. It wouldn't appear there until they (which ever search engine you are using) updated their ODP data and remember we have no control over how end users of the data use it or how often they update it.
