When can / should a site be resubmitted?

Dear DMOZ team,
Our site was 'rejected' two years ago, though in our opinion we did and continue to meet all the criteria for being listed.
Is it OK to resubmit? Are 'rejections' permanent or can they be reconsidered.
Thanks so much,
Andy Cook

Reconsidering a 'rejected' site

Thanks a lot Jim,
I know it was rejected because of the reply on this thread:
http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=22977
I am as certain as I can be that the site did and does follow all the guidelines for submission eligibility.
Any thoughts you can share on whether and how to resubmit would be most appreciated.
Best regards,
Andy

Navigate to your category of choice and click on its suggest URL link at the top of the page.

I'm not looking into or commenting on the 2004 thread because to do so would be tantamount to giving a status check.

Thanks Jim. Plus question about removing old thread

Thanks for the guidance Jim, will do.
Also, would welcome advice about whether and how it's possible to request removal of a thread. Inserting takethefamily into google elicits a negative DMOZ thread as the second option. Please advise if it is possible to ask for the thread to be reomved.
Thank you very much,
Andy

I don't understand why jimnoble gave an advice to suggest the site again.
In 2005 you were told that your site was not listable. Unless you did some major changes on your site (like changing to a complete other subject) I see no reason why the decission in 2007 would be any different. (note: i did not look at your site and am not commenting on its current content)

Please read the DMOZ guidelines Sites Generally Not Included

Jim chose not to look at the old thread. However, if you did not then understand why the site was not listable, and you have not learned anything since then -- then yes, I'd recommend studying the guidelines until you understand that the editors applied them correctly -- THEN judging the site by that understanding. Then you'll know what to do. Because if you're not looking for what the editors are looking for, then you can't help the editors, so please don't try.

Thanks for the useful tips

I'm grateful to you all for the useful tips. I've now resubmitted our site because I think it should be eligible based on both the general and travel guidelines, certainly its competitors with similar business models and less helpful / unique content seem eligible. Thanks again. Andy

Very surprised and dismayed

andycook,

I have just had a look at your site. Was it really the same content back when you had it rejected or have there been significant changes? Also, are you sure you didn't use backdoor methods etc.. such as redirecting?

If not, I am now certainly very dismayed because your site looks great, informative and not at all spammy or dishonest.

I've posted a few times on this forum looking for advice as to what constitutes eligibility for being listed and I have been more or less told that as long as the site isn't just a copy of another, that it has unique content and that it isn't trying to deceive the ODP or users then it will be listed.

Please let people know if the site is more or less similar to when it was rejected as I'm sure a lot of posters on this forum would be very interested to see just what type of site is actually rejected.

Here you go, Hamboid.

http://dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html#notinclude

Nothing we do or don't do is hidden from you, everything is spelled out nicely in our Guidelines, and it's available to the public. I suspect though, you are perhaps more interested in getting around our Guidelines, than complying with them.

That link and the following link explains what we consider spam, which might be different than your own interpretation:

Responses to Hamboid and Crowbar

Hamboid - am very grateful for the positive comments about the site. It has evolved since 2005 from a design, functionality and content perspective. However to your point, the business model, unique content and vision remain the same.

Crowbar - should you be able to spare a moment it would be extremely helpful to learn whether and how the site may still not meet stipulated requirements, in your opinion.

Thanks very much,
Andy Cook

I'm sorry, Andy, but it would be against forum policy to do a site suggestion review for anybody. I sympathize with you, but, I also trust the abilities and judgement of the editors who have editing permissions in that area of the Directory, and I'm sure they are more qualified than I am, as I don't edit over there. Good luck to you, :) .
