Hi Guys,

I think this is the best way to get hold of one of the DMOZ Prof Editors. I have a small situation with my site seasoncars, we now have two offices one located in Hainualt and one located in London chelsea and Kensington. The Hainualt office offers free delivery for cars to city airport and standsted and the Chelsea office handels all london booking and offers a free delivery to Heathrow airport via our meet and great service. London and England are covered via the delivery service.

Our business is London based, most of our clients pickup the car in london or get it delived to an airport and use our service.

We are keen to be listed in the correct catogery and upto this date its been rejected as change i submit must be wrong.

We have 2 physical office, and you can say the delivery service to london airports are virtual location.

I have tryed to submit to car hire london category but didnt work, even though there is a listing for chauffeur cars, so am not sure how this works and how chauffeur car gets listed as car hire?

Could someone be kind enough to advise where to proceed or what category would best meet the requirment of DMOZ.

thank you

sal
:)

Visit the category where your website is listed, click on the update listing link at the top of the page and fill out the form.

Anything you want to make sure isn't overlooked, you can mention in the comments box.

But, and this is extremely important: NOTHING in the contents box MATTERS--unless it is confirmed on the website. We review WEBSITES, not comment boxes in suggestion forms.

(I suspect this isn't a problem on your particular website, but the point is so important that it's worth mentioning on every possible occasion.)

Hi Hutcheson,

I have submitted <url removed> with the update information and included information in the comment box to help the editor understand the nature of the business and how it works, it is also in the website.

I just need to get this site in correct locaiton before submitting the sister site <url removed>.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Sal

before submitting the sister site
Don't do it.

That a business has chosen to spread it's website over multiple domain names doesn't make it eligible for multiple listings here. What's more, our submission guidelines expressly forbid the suggestion of related websites (which include sisters) and outline the possible consequences should they be ignored.

ohhhh Jim dont get upset, dont hit me with terms and conditions you beging to sound like my morgage company..... just kidding....you learn new thing every day......

I under stand what your saying there, but the way the business is getting bigger.... so that we will have to dedicate a website for say sports cars, one for budget cars and one for chauffeur cars. Different services. Its very hard to optimise a site for all the keywords, indvidual sites offering different services are better.

Would this still break the rules of the dmoz <url removed again> is a new site and will eventually I hope supersed our main site which is doing very well. The new site will look at budget cars and offering services just for london and the old site will eventually offer chauffeur executive cars and sports cars for hire i hope.:icon_excl

You seem to think that you can continue to flout the ODP's and this forum's ToC with impunity.

Trust me on this, you can't.

Last warnings:

  • If you mention any of your website's URLs in this forum again, you will be banned from it.
  • We will consider any suggestions of related websites to ODP to be deliberate directory abuse and they will be treated accordingly. You really do need to actually read our submission guidelines because they apply to you just as much as everybody else.

i didnt put url, just names of companies, its not a link....

am just trying to get you to understand what am saying

nothing wrong with that right?

in terms of the guidline, if it passes all the following then it should be allowed onto the dmoz right. but what i dont get is the bit which says "similar content "

does this mean if you offer prestige cars and chauffeur services on one site and budget cars on another, is this classiffied as simalur content?

please help am trying to understand this.......

the guidelines say

Do not submit mirror sites. Mirror sites are sites that contain identical content, but have altogether different URLs.

Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Sites with overlapping and repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.

Yes, it is.

Websites from the same owner about the same or closely related subjects are classified as similar content. DMOZ will only list 1 of those websites. Suggesting other urls is against the DMOZ guidelines.

The short answer: pvgool is right.

The long answer: if you offer prestige cars on a site, then ... that's not unique content at all, is it? Some other site already offers prestige cars, sorry, site not listable at all ever...

Oh, you offer prestige cars FROM ABG RENTAL CARS on a website? THAT'S unique content, because nobody else can offer cars from THAT company--the other websites talk about the services offered by ACE AUTO RENTAL, or WRECK-A-RENT INC, or whoever.

It's the information about the company that makes the site unique.

But another website about another size of car but the same company? Similar. Just imagine how useless the directory would be if, in addition to walmart.com, we listed walmart-cornflakes.com, walmart-wonder-bread.com, walmart-specialty-bread.com, ....

A nightmare. For surfers and editors alike.

So we'll ALL stay back from the verges of the regions impinging on the boundaries of the neighborhood of that slippery slope. And basically, it's one company, one website suggestion. No matter how many brands of cars, or beer, you rent.
