Who owns DMOZ?

Does anyone know who the parent company is for DMOZ?
I think it's Netscape but I'm, not sure. Thx!

It is stated at the bottom of every page of dmoz.org usually on the left, inside the little green bar.

The would be useful information if DMOZ was ever up so that the pages could actually be seen.

You could use one of the official mirrors instead - for example http://ch.dmoz.org/ - It is hosted by someone else but showing the netscape copyright as well.

Windharp, can those sites accept submissions?

Hold on, tried it - they route the submission through the dmoz.org site. Ugh!

Every single downstream user of ODP data should be routing submissions back through dmoz.org - if you find any where their submit function does not route this way, then please let us know.

Ooh I can't resist this:

Maybe I might just be able to actually submit without timing out then!

Very possibly you could - only, if the data user didn't route suggestions to the ODP, you would be suggesting their site to them, not to DMOZ, so we'd never receive it... :p

If you find any where their submit function does not route this way, then they are breaking the terms of the licence to use the ODP data on their site.

There are quite a few downstream ODP-data-using sites where the "suggest a site" link goes nowhere, or goes to "$cat", where the webmaster was supposed to replace "$cat" with the category path but did not do so.

They have been doing some work to improve the server capacity, but I realize DMOZ is still often very slow to respond. We hope it will improve.

However if it times out, your money will be cheerfully refunded! :)
