Hello

I use to be listed in /world/Português/Sociedade/Filosofia and since this year, I am not listed anymore. This is not fair... I cant see no reason. I already send messages to the responsible editors and get no answer...since many MONTHs ago.. I alreadt re-submit the site and get no inclusion. Please someone can take care and return to me?

Thanks in advance

This is not fair

Fairness is not a concept that impacts our editing decisions. What may or may not be fair to you, may or may not be fair to someone else.

I cant see no reason.

Perhaps not. Have you considered all of the factors that editors consider -- or are you using some other criteria not found in our editing guidelines?

I already send messages to the responsible editors

All 250+ editors who have permission to edit in any given category?

and get no answer.

Which is exactly what should happen. Editors are actively discouraged from replying to people who are only interested in their own sites -- little or no good ever comes of these discussions.

I alreadt re-submit the site

Not sure why you did that -- it probably will not help, but if you only did it once, it won't hurt (too much). Please do not resubmit again.

Please someone can take care and return to me?

Absolutely not! That is not the purpose of this forum.

Well, its a kind of threathment that you give for a newbie here! Sorry for any problem, but I think this posture of sending agressive answer from who is out of purpose dont lead to nothing. But thanks for reply. I expected at least to be pointed for a way or to get an support, just because I really cant see no reason.

I am not interested only in my site, as you said. Matter of fact, I was editor in this category that I´ve mentioned in the past (and yes, I know editors dont are encouraged to add their own site). I was pretty envolved about that time (early 2000). And I am familiar with editing guidelines and with the ODP site. The actual work for this category have much of what I have done, indeed. The new implementations arent good, however. For example, a site which is cooled there are now paid, restricted access.

I dont gave up of beeing a editor from this category. I was kicked off. I noticed this agressivity in forums and wasnt active enough. So, I stop to log for some months and when I returned, my account was disabled for long time without login. But it is late, because both my nick and my name are contamined with the ODP pages, I get that scum when searching my name with all that hundreds of site who copy the data. When you search for Sanhux in google, you get my old page in dmoz, profiles/sanhux.htm . But I dont have a login anymore, the system dont accept my pass and theres nothing I can do to remove this crap.

ODP isnt really a "sister project" of wikipedia and another similars. Wikipedia with all problems, continues democratic.

Thanks and bye.

Editing guidelines have undergone many major changes since 2000.

As a former editor you should know that there is a big difference between being "kicked out" and "timed out".

The only thing you had to do was to ask for reinstatement. And no, you can't remove your profilepage (and neither can any of us remove it for you)

From one who pretend to point people for "big differences" (oh my, in the first answer I already get an impressive lesson about justice and relativism  ) you should read better what you are replying. I wrote "kick off" and not "kick out". I was kicked off by the system, by this lamer site which is ODP ... where things dont get improved...Oh, what a great changes you should have made! I STARTED in early 2000, and get out later... for your information. This site which faddom is stagnate, because people are agressive and competitive, theres no sense of community and noone use directories anymore...

Bye:cool:

If this all is the case according to your opinion I am wondering why you are so interested in being listed. And that is a serious question. I see a lot of people complaing about how DMOZ is death and of no use and at the same time they are asking why their site is not inculded yet. To me if it would be of no use there would also we no reason to suggest my site.

First, because I think the exclusion was not fair. But well, who am I ? And second because Google search takes the description of the site in ODP and it counts to Google Page Rank. Just for that, because the many years I was listed, a get a couple of visits from ODP. I always check the referers in stats.

Thanks for nothing, bye.

P.S Good work for you editors, I dont want to be impolite, but these answers with "absolutely" "no way" "big difference" "RTFM" or go away noob... lol:p

By the way, I am removing the links to ODP from my site. In a year, I gave some hundreds of visits to you.... I will fix that.

Theres no contradition. I get a very few visites in many yeards :) ... I said no one use anymore, TODAY, but people used it past, when I get about 10 visits in 4 years from ODP. Ok, but portuguese isnt much active in ODP, you can say. Its so nosense to put philosophy under "Society" :(

Well, what I see from stats and from my large internet experience is that people today use search, not large directories ... Only thematic directories in a thematic site which already got traffic can goes on.

But I am not expert in ODP traffic (thanks god), so you tell me...the site is dying or not? You said , many people tell about this. Its because theres a reason. In this thread you got 2: 1) the way you receive me and 2) the nonsense of dont have an login and already be listed as editor (in the profile page it says I am editor of that categories, which is not true)... or..POOR technical competence... unfortunetly.... Another project which use people good will of volunteer work in internet but dont create an appropiated enviroment.

According to me, other editors I know and the people using our directory it is not dying at all.
The complaints are all from webmasters who think that not getting their site listed within the timeframe they want is a sign of how DMOZ is not working. They just can't understand that DMOZ was and never will be about listing single sites. Building a directory has nothing to do with listing specific sites. Listing around 1000 sites each day (atleast before the server went boom) is building the directory.

What makes you so certain you were kicked out?

Anyone who doesn't edit for a four month period automatically times out. In such cases, reinstatement is usually granted without any fuss or bother for anyone who politely requests it using the appropriate form.

But from what you've written here, you don't seem to like us much. I guess that must be why you never asked to be reinstated.
