Hi,

I have a website <url removed> which has over 1000+ backlinks in msn, yahoo etc,but google only shows up 4 backlinks. my site is a PR3,but i'm sure if google showed all my backlinks I would have a PR7 or PR8 site.

Google does take all backlinks in to account, however they limit their link: operator command to show only a sample.

Only Google knows exactly why, but my guess with 7 years experience is it's to prevent competitors using Google to find all your backlinks and prevent them attempting to get a link in the same place.

If Google did show all link in the operator command, you would still have a Pagerank 3 and not a 7 or 8 sorry. Pagerank is worthless anyway unless your purely running a website just to sell text links.

Taree is spot on - Google's database is huge compared with Yahoo's, and positively monstrous compared to MSN. They know about more backlinks to your site than any other engine.

Incidently, 1000 backlinks would necessarily equate to a PR7 or 8 and in fact most likely wouldn't. It's not just a numbers game - Google is interested in the quality and relevancy of the pages that link to yours. The PR of those pages is just one factor. A PR9 page about dog food that links to a site about helicopters probably won't be seen as all that worthwhile as far as Google is concerned.

If you go to google's webmaster tools and check your links there, I am sure they will appear for you. But when you're using one of those PageRank link tools the links don't show up the same way. But as for why, sorry I'm too inexperienced for that part of the question. Try a little experiment with your links. Publish some of them raw.. you know http.. and some of them with anchor text. Give it a variety :)

As for MSN. pshaw! They have something really strange going on now.
