Why is Dmoz so unhelpful?

I submitted my site several months ago and joined this forum hoping to ask a helpful editor whether it has any chance of ever being published. I'm disappointed to see that such enquires are not allowed, but I really don't see why. All I want is to make a little adsense or affiliate revenue and I keep reading that a dmoz listing is viewed favourably by google for PR purposes.

I've spent a lot of time and effort creating an interesting site about how to buy diamonds at the best price without being ripped off, etc. Getting relevant incoming links takes a lot of time and effort (and a thick skin!). A dmoz listing would help I'm sure, but getting listed seems about as likely as finding the holy grail.

I wanted to give my website address, but apparently that's not allowed either.

Any comments would be welcome.

You can reads all about the reasons for the Discontinuation of site status checks here at RZ.

As for if/when the site you suggested will be listed, I'd first try looking in the RZ FAQ. If you have any further questions please ask.

Remember that all our editor are volunteers and that we get many site suggestions every day. On top of that, the ODP does not exist to be a listing service for webmasters; it's there to be a useful resource for users. With the current numbers, it's clearly not possible for us to review all the suggested sites in the time-frame their owners would like, but we do our best to build and maintain a useful directory for our users.

This sentence alone makes me think that the site probably isn't listable.

and I keep reading that a dmoz listing is viewed favourably by google for PR purposes.
The people who have wrote this are wrong. Google favors a link from DMOZ the same as a link from any other site.
