Why the hurdles

Re my” Bring out your dead link” post I think you missed my point . Why does providing valuable leads to potential problems need to be shackled with a membership requirement? One would think the more input you receive the better. Why the hurdles?

I'm sorry, maybe I have missed your point, so I have only solved the problem about the dead link.

Since I am not sure to understand what you mean in this second post too, I leave you to someone else that will can give a better answer.

You do not need to be a member of anything to report problems with listings in DMOZ.
Just follow the standard way to report such issues.
On the page were you did find the listing there is an "update url" link at the top of the page. You only need to click it and fill in the form, tell us which website it concerns and what the issue is.

Requiring membership before posting is a feature of most worthwhile forum software as it is of IPB used here. Those that don't tend to be even more plagued with irrelevant spam than we are.

Removing this feature isn't practicable, even if we wanted to.

Removing posts or memberships on request aren't things that we do either, partly because it's closing the door after the horse has bolted. This is the internet and anything you posted here will probably have been spidered many times by now.
