You're always welcome to read the editors' guidelines for yourself. WE can't discuss the application of them to any particular site, and it's always hard for YOU to look at your own site objectively: so that won't provide a quick or comforting answer. But it will provide an answer.

I was not wondering about the status of my submission. I was wondering how can my site be removed after it was in the directory for a long time.

There are any number of reasons including no longer being listable (or never having been listable), not being available when it was reviewed again, or being moved to a different category. The point is that we can't tell you which applies to your site without giving you a status check...which we no longer do.

Very easy.
Either:
- one of our tools noticed the site was not available for a longer period -> the site is removed from public view and an editor will look if he can find the problem (could be a change in url, or the site is realy gone).
- an editor has reviewed the site again and decided it should not be listed anymore (reason could be site has changed and does not meet DMOZ guidelines anymore or the guidelines have changed)

As Hutcheson wrote you can find out yourself why it was removed.
Did you have technical problems lately?
Compare your site against current DMOZ guidelines.

There is actually another reason:

For whatever reason, it was decided that the site no longer fits in the category where it was listed, and it has been moved and is awaiting approval in the new category.

The vast majority of the time, when this happens, it is delisted, moved and relisted by the same editor (or by a team of editors working together) within a reasonably short timeframe. Sometimes, however, the site may not be immediate relisted, and awaits review by another editor.

The site has not been offline and I had no technical problems.

- an editor has reviewed the site again and decided it should not be listed anymore (reason could be site has changed and does not meet DMOZ guidelines anymore or the guidelines have changed)
There is a site listed in the same category with the same content so I think if that one meets the quidelines mine should to.

For whatever reason, it was decided that the site no longer fits in the category where it was listed, and it has been moved and is awaiting approval in the new category.
Again a site with the same content is listed in the same category.

After removing invalid assumptions in your analysis, you'll have the answer.
