Why was my application rejected?

I have just received notifaction that my application has been rejected.

I can't understand why, the only possible reason given in the rejection email is that sample sites submitted to any category under 'world' must be in more languages than English.
However, the top category to the one which I submitted to was 'Regional'.

Can you give me an idea as to why my application was rejected or point me towards an appropriate category to apply to?
The situation seems to be desperate for the area that I live in, with waiting time now around 2 years, and I would like to help improve this situation.

Something sounds wrong there. Maybe the reviewer attached the wrong letter. It's hard to say without having seen the application or the actual letter that you received. You should probably apply again, and maybe make reference to this thread somewhere in the application.

I think glitterball was looking at the list of possible reasons that is in the upper part of the general rejection letter and pointing out what he/she thinks is the only one that might apply in his/her case, not that the rejecting meta actually put a personal note saying that in the rejection email.

Glitterball, if you applied for a category under Regional, then that note wouldn't have been part of the reason why you were rejected. Have a closer look at the others and see if any of them apply.

Maybe someone could tell me what I did wrong?

The only other possible reason for the rejection, that I can think of, is that one of the sites in the queue for this category is registered to me.
I stated this affiliation (I am no longer involved with this site,but have not yet transferred the domain) in my application.

Maybe I should re-apply when the domain has been transferred?

It really is a desperate situation for the place that I live with the waiting list this long and I would like to help.

I'm not an editor that can review editor applications but I can tell you that no information is stored about rejections. So it is impossible to answer any specific questions about this rejection.
All possible reasons are provide in the mail you recieved. One or more of these reasons could apply for your rejection.

No, none of the reasons listed in the email apply.

Is it possible that the same editor that is currently responsible for this category is also the one responsible for my application being denied?
