Will applying to become an editor effect site listing?

I recently submited my site to Dmoz, I meticulaously checked all the guidelines and followed everything as well as I could.

After I completed the submission, the page I got taken to displayed information about becoming an editor, so I filled that out as well - it is something Ive always been just as keen to do (Both I and my dad (business partner) know alot about the category in which our site resides and so I decided to apply in that catagory).

I was promptly declined for editor-ship, and now I wonder if it was a good idea applying - I was honest and listed my site amongst other sites I run and my intention was not to self promote (although If I had become an editor I would have added my site because I genuinely beleive it is one of the best sites in its field - we have spent 5 years adding content and deliberatly steared away from purposeful money making in an attempt to make sure our site stays customer focused). But rather my intention was to provide good investment sites to the catagory - there really are too many sites that fill themselves with adverts and when you come to them you struggle to find anything except external links.

My question here is basically, will the fact that I applyed to become an editor in the same catagory I had just suggested my site to have an effect on whether or not my site gets listed? Or will it still be treated the same as any other request for listing?

No worries - the two things, suggesting a site and applying to be an editor, are totally separate.

Many applicants who are interested in a category will have or be associated in some way with a site that is listable there or nearby. If they are accepted it is expected that they will eventually list their own site if it is listable (though many only do so once they have reviewed all the other sites waiting in that category).

There is a post FAQ and General Advice About Becoming an Editor that could be helpful if you want to re-apply.

The editor who reviews listings in that category will probably not be able to see your editor application at all (only the "meta-editors" can see it).

What you can't see, can't affect your behavior!

oh thats great! I didnt realise there were editor request best procedures.

Is it ok to read those guidelines then re-apply to become an editor then?

Yes, if you want an interesting hobby. Suggest you take some time reading and keep a copy of what you send for reference in case your application isn't accepted. :)

All unsuccessful applicants receive feedback pointing out issues they need to address in subsequent applications. Those that follow this advice usually succeed. :)
