Hi to everyone that is interested in this subject.
Firstly, i submitted my site to DMOZ 3 years ago, and i have no idea if it has ever been reviewed.
My suggestion is to submit then forget for the following reasons;
Many people think that you must submit to Dmoz in order to have a good natural listing in Google, this however is NOT the case.
Google base the positioning of your site on a number of factors, and over the last 2 years of experimenting, the most important formula for the success of my website (from page 880 to page 1, postion 1 and 2) was to follow these simple rules;
1. Be patient
2. Build your website using the criteria set out by Google (use the tools they supply)
3. Page rank really works, here is the formula http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html
4. Do not have a home page such as www.yourdomain.com/ and a www.yourdomain.com/index.htm (use the one without the index.htm)
5. Do not use a lot of flash animation.
6. Create a sitemap
7. Create as many pages as possible to your site with relevant content.
8. Pay for inclusion into established smaller directories with a page rank of 3 or more. (this doesnt have to cost much). This is a good way to try and gain page rank to start with, websites will not want to link from you if your pr is 0.
9. When you create a links page, keep the links relevant to the nature of your business, for example, if you own a travel website, then only suggest links such as hotels, flights, transfers, etc.
10. Once your page rank increases on your links page, try and reciprocate with as many related sites as possible, providing they have a pr2 or more.
11. Keep a database of your reciprocals, and check them on a regular basis to ensure you are not getting cheated, and to ensure the link is still live.
12. Try and keep your website up to date and dynamic as possible, even if the change is small (Google loves fresh content).
13. Pick a reliable, and trustworthy host, uptime is very important.
