World/Srpski Translations

Member rhinocervs has expressed the opinion that improvement is needed in the translations of ODP pages into Serbian. Unfortunately the thread was in the wrong forum. Even more unfortunately, the thread contained much that was both irrelevant and too intertwined with the real issues to allow for simply moving it here.

I am therefore asking for a fresh start here.

I am also asking that we restrict the discussion to the Serbian language and avoid all mention of the Serbian nationality or ethnicity.

I am not asking, but rather demanding, that we not mention specific editors and that we avoid anything that has any hint whatsoever of accusation to it.

Thank you for this much-needed fresh start...

rhinocervs, can you please repost the links to the two translations that you made? I made a copy of the week and month names and the other minor changes, but didn't note the links.

I am not an editor and I do not have enough priviledges to take everything in my hand and fix it. I must come here and request for changes, giving arguments for it, giving solutions. It is not a problem, I just hope it is not “shoot in blank” and I just hope this discussion, at the end, will give her own contribution for making Serbian DMOZ better and Serbian people satisfied with how their part of DMOZ looks...

Voltaire had it backwards. I may very well agree with what you're saying, but I'll fight to deny your right to say it here.

Could we please restrict this to issues of language?

i approve your move with a fresh start, it was great thing to do. you may correct everything i said in the reply above if you think it will lead us in wrong way... i will edit previous post and cut a line which will include most important part below it.

This topic is now under discussion in the internal forums. We are all in agreement with you about the importance of adequate translations, but for this reason it may take a little while since there are not that many srpski-speaking editors, and those of us who don't know Serbian can't implement any changes.

If you have more suggested translations please post them here. Thank you!

you must understand that i am willing to help. of course i know you have lack of serbian editors, or editors who know serbian well, otherwise all those things would be done long time ago as I am definitly not the only Serb who cares for his language, language-excentric or something. that's why i am offering help here instead of asking you to do it on your own.
