Would like to know a reason why I'm not listed.

Hi All

I have been trying to have our site http://www.ozgrid.com listed in the Spreadsheets>Excel category with any luck.

Could somebody please tell me why I cannot get listed?

This one we only submitted about 6 weeks ago, but I get the feeling that it wont make it in as our main site hasn't.

We can't look at the editor side this week, as it's down for a hardware upgrade. However, a search for "ozgrid" in the public pages reveals two listings for your mirror http://www.microsoftexceltraining.com . Which one is the mirror and why one instead of the other is listed is not something I'm competent to answer; however, as long as microsoftexceltraining.com is listed, ozgrid.com won't be.

Thanks for your reply. You are correct that http://www.microsoftexceltraining.com/ is our mirror site. While I knew about it being listed once (in VBA), I didn't realize I was listed twice. This could have happened after paying for my site to be submitted to numerous search engines and directories by a third party.

I did inititially try to change the URL to http://www.ozgrid.com and get the VBA category changed to Excel. I had no success in doing so.

I am reluctant to delete the listing as it could well mean I end up with no listing at all.

What should I do from here?

BTW Does this mean our free Q&A Forum will get listed under Excel>Help?

Just noticed that while I show up twice searching for OzGrid, I am only listed once. The search result states I have a listing in: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Education/Software/ but if you go there I not to be seen?

If a main site is listed in Shopping/Widgets then a deeplink will not get listed in Shopping/Widgets/Blue. That's the ODP policy. Notable exceptions include huge sites listed at the top level, e.g. BBC News in the News/ category, WebMD in the Health/ category.

If you want a different URL used, then (1) make sure the site is configured so that one you want is the REAL URL, not a redirector, (2) make sure that the one you want is the URL people would see if they looked around the site's pages for some clue as to the URL, (3) make sure the links on the site go to the REAL URL, not some other alias, (4) put in an "Update URL" request. The editor will do some spot checking at the site of the OLD URL (the nature of which you can probably guess) to protect you from some site-copying listing-snatcher, and if all looks clean, will change the URL to a new one.

"Update URL" requests go into the same heap as "Add URL" requests, so it may not happen quickly. You can force it to happen a bit faster by having your server return a "permanently moved" HTTP status, which will alert Robozilla. Once Robozilla has flagged a site, the editor should check for pending update URL requests as part of determining whether and whither it's moved.

Dave, as I'm sure you're aware from the various fora that you read, the ODP editing side is down right now for upgrade, so editors can't do a check on what's going on.

When things are back, we will look into the situation in more detail.

Sorry we can't get you a quicker answer.

Since we can only access the out-of-date public pages and out-of-date search results right now, anything we tell you now is essentially speculation. Ozgrid comes up in the current search results as having 2 listings. Whether the fact that it doesn't show both of those listings in the actual categories is because the search results are more current than the categories (i.e. there are indeed two listings but the categories haven't caught up) or the categories are more current than the search (i.e. one of the listings has been deleted since the search was last updated), we can't say for sure until we have the editing side back.

Bump this thread after we have the system back (after July 21 by current estimates) and someone will look into this for you.

How is that "after July 21"? The servers likely won't be available until noonish on the 21st, if not later. Bump the thread after the servers are up (there will be a notice posted here, probably in the Site Submission Status forum or Announcements forum, when they are up -- please check before bumping).

In summary, I would like to change the URL of my listing in
Computers/Programming/Languages/VBA/ to: Computers/Software/Spreadsheets/Excel/ and change the URL from http://www.microsoftexceltraining.com to: http://www.ozgrid.com

Well, you're listed (not by me) in the Excel category now

It just doesn't show yet on the regular public page http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Spreadsheets/Excel/ , have to wait for Friday probably for that.
