Sorry!! :( Have looked through the almost 200 sites waiting for review "twice" and didn't see that URL.

Was either wrong URL, wrong category, or there were submission problems when submitted. Nor has this URL been touched by editing fingers. Suggest re-submitting.

DISREGARD above comments. Seems that I've been staring at this monitor for too long today.

Thanks to brmehlman for being able to see better than I and pointing it out.

Site is currently waiting with almost 200 others with a submission date of 13 March 2003.

No problem Bob. I've been reading your posts all over the forum. You've been busy tonight.
I saw an answer you gave chriskud5 @ www.thehipdoc.com about applying for his regional and that it would not affect his topical submission.
Would this apply to myself also. I think my regional cat
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Canada/Quebec/Localities/M/Montreal/Business_and_Economy/Manufacturing/
would be quicker to get than the topical one. And like you said it wouldn't hurt having both.
Let me know if this isn't to much trouble.

Thanks for your help. Now take a break from the keyboard and get a glass of OJ or something.

Graham

Hope the resubmit doesn't give anyone grief

If your business is located in the home of a Regional category, you may submit to that category.

Please keep in mind that it would be much easier to verify location and the company if the address was posted on the site. Regional listings should have a "local presence". i.e., contribute to the economy by having a physical location for customers to visit, employ locals, etc...

Gotta thank you guys. I have learned more in an hour here than... well you know.
I just didn't realize that you could submit to each cat. that applied. I thought that you had to submit only one.

Bruce, thanks for the suggestions (you can bet I will submit) and the extra time you took to help. I appreciate the effort.

I'll wait a few months and see how things turn out with my submissions

Thanks again.
Graham :)

Actually you can't submit to each category that applies. But as a general rule for English language sites, you can submit to the one most applicabale category AND to the a regional category if the company exists as a physical entity in a region. In some special cases, you may be able to submit additional categories, but this is an exception.

As mentioned earlier it would be better for the editors, [and probably good for web users] if you had an address on the contact page, so people don't have to spend the time hunting down and verifying the region you submit to. [5716 St. Francois, St. Laurent, QC H4S-1B4 Canada]

Re: www.capspackaging.com - it has been over a yea

I have already made the change to add our address to the contact us section. I didn't realize that I hadn't uploaded it yet. It is done.

Thanks for the clarification on submissions. So if I can summarize for myself then I can submit:

-To the english topic category that best applies for me and
as Editor Brmehlman suggests the World/french version of the same because of my french version of the site.

-I can also submit for my regional cat as Raggedyrugs suggested and the french regional version for my french users viewing again as Brmehlman suggested.

I just want to make sure that I am in the categories that both french and english users will see for both regional and topical categories, while not abusing the directory.

Thank you for your impressive speed in providing answers. You are certainly unique in the manner in which you help users meet directory requirements.

Raggedyrugs:

Do you ever sleep?

Question (which should probably be in another forum but...
you noted that there are 200 submissions waiting since March. Are there many editors for this cat. I am very interested in this and was thinking of applying as an editor. I understood from other postings that as a rookie editor you need to "earn your wings" with smaller categories. Is there such a category in the packaging arena?

As usual Thanks again.

You sure? You added it to the French page but not the English contact page (you need it both places if you're after a Regional listing). By the way, the English Regional category for your site wouldn't be Montreal, but St. Laurent (when the public pages are in sync again with the editing side, the category will actually be Saint-Laurent -- it's been renamed -- but for now the public pages show it as St. Laurent).

You could apply for the category. Just be sure you're doing it for the right reasons and are willing to list your competitors.

Of course I sleep, somtimes!! Living in the middle of nowhere allows that luxury.. :)

Everyone knows we need more editors. It is correct that newbie editors need to "earn their wings" per se, but seeing that the category of http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Industrial_Goods_and_Services/Packaging/Machinery_and_Equipment/Wrapping,_Sealing_and_Shrinking/ only has 58 listings, I believe it is "do-able" for a new editor. The amount of sites waiting to be reviewed isn't all that large compared to others.

There is an enormous amount of guidelines to read, re-read, and re-read again. Take a peek at http://dmoz.org/guidelines/ and get a head start.

Also a good read is http://www.dmoz.org/Business/desc.html which describes the type of sites that belong in the Business branch.

Also keep in mind that there is help readily available for new editors and nothing can "really" be broken.. ;)

DISCLAIMER: I don't have permissions to review editor applications and the above opinions are not from a "meta" editor and doesn't guarantee a new editor application will be approved.

Sometimes I even get to go golfing, which is where I'm heading as soon as I hit the "submit" button..

Good luck and hopefully we'll see you on the "other side". Bob

Marisa1116

I know where you are coming from, but I just get a kick out of improving and growing the internet side of our industry. I have been studying it for a few years now and have often communicated with my "competitors" about their sites and my site. In my specific case my company has such a focused market that although others sell a competitive product it is along with many other products so we are not considered "direct competitors". There are many areas of packaging that I enjoy but do not compete in that I can see myself making a difference.

From your answer it seems as though there might be a need in this category so I will apply and see if I have the qualificatoins required to be an editor.

Don't most editors have a knowledge base of the category they serve from being involved in it (and thus dealing with competitors) or are they from outside that particular category's industry?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I will be making the effort to become an editor. I will do the required reading first though.

Golfing! It is 62F here and raining :( The closest I getting today is to watch Perry win in Hartford.

Thanks again

Depends. Some do, some don't. Those that do need to be aware of their motivations before applying or it'll be a most unpleasant experience all the way around.

Re: www.capspackaging.com - it has been over a yea

Understood. Once I read the responsibilities, if I see I can meet them, I will apply. I am not worried about my ability t be objective. I have a feeling that will be the easiest part of the job for me.
Raggedyrags has stated in this thread and others in the Editor forum that you are not just led to your category and fed to the lions. There is a back up system in place to support new editors. I expect that it is similar to a referee in sports. You are groomed to suceed and have the support of the more experienced refs to improve and confirm decisions.

Thanks for the feedback.
