In the body of your post, include a clickable link to the dmoz.org category you submitted to. The simplest way to do this is to copy and paste the ODP category you submitted to (i.e. http://dmoz.org/....).

Please advise where my application stands in the approval process, and when I may expect to learn whether my application will be successful.

Best regards.

It is awaiting review. I'm sorry, but I really can't tell how long it will take. We just don't know.

I submitted a request to register my web site many months ago but have heard nothing positive since then. Is there any realistic possibility that my request will be considered soon?

No change I'm afraid. You can come back and ask again in another 6 months.

I wonder if you could now give me some idea as to when you may make a decision on my request.
I'm afraid not - our FAQ section will explain why - there is no way of making such a prediction.

You've Got To Be Kidding

Isn't this becoming a bit ridiculous? Is anybody there?

I'm going to explain something you really need to know.

DMOZ has never been, is not, will never be, a listing service for webmasters. It is not our job, is not any part of our concept, to provide in any way shape or form a listing service for webmasters. If anything we are the anti-Christ of listing services for webmasters. We do not exist so webmasters can send us their sites to review and list so webmasters can promote their sites, increase their Google Page Rank, sell their wares, show off to their friends what brilliant web marketing experts they are.

So what are we?

We are a bunch of unpaid volunteers who spend their spare time working on a project to catalog all the unique content on the Internet that we can find. We search the search engines, we write down URLs from the back of buses, we ask whether our dentist has a website. We trawl through pages of links on personal websites and on other directories.

And we invite members of the public to help us with our little project by sending us their suggestions. It is called the Suggest URL feature. It can be the results of their travels around the Internet, something they have seen on the back of a bus, their dentist's website. Or it can be their own site.

We take all the stuff we have found ourselves, and everything suggested to us by the public, and when we have some spare time we look through it at our own pace, listing some, rejecting others, saving the rest for the next time.

Have you grasped the concept yet?

So thank you for the suggestion. One day when someone has the time and the inclination to have a look at bird sites, they might have a look at the one you suggested.

Was it a listing service you were after? The people over at Yahoo would love to meet you. You can pay them, they will provide you with customer service representatives with job descriptions and salaries, and they will review your site in a set timespan. If they don't do it in time you can complain that it is ridiculous. You see they are a business, we are not. We don't charge anything for you to make your suggestion to us, we have no responsibility to you, or duty to you, or anything else to you. Sorry if you misunderstood.

In the meantime, if you would like a status check again in 6 months, return here and one of the volunteers will do you a favour and go and see whether anyone has looked at your suggestion yet. No-one will pay them to do that for you, they will use their own computer and Internet connection at their own cost, just so that you can know. You might do them the common courtesy of saying thank you even if the answer is not what you would like.

Just a suggestion.
