Hi, I submitted my site back in November 2003 to the following category:

Can you please let me know of the status of the site being included.

Multiple submissions have been declined becuase the site is not primarily selling just flowers.

You need to find a more appropriate category - which (although I am not familiar with the subject matter) I would guess is one of the subcategories of http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Gifts

The site sells mainly silk flowers and plants but it also sells home decor accessories like baskets, vases, candle holders, etc.. It also sells a few more categories of gifts like: (novelty phones, decorative bird cages, ceramic gifts and more). It is basically a gift shop offering multiple item types but specializing in silk flowers. What category do you suggest I submit to?

Ok, I just checked the ODP directory and one of my suppliers is listed under this category: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Flowers/Silk/

We sell everything they do plus a few more different types of items that we carry. The category above is the one that I submitted to in November 2003 because we specialize in the sale of silk flowers. I could not find another category that would better suit our site than the category above. If there is any type of problem getting in to this category because of the products that our site carries, I would appreciate any info from an ODP editor.

You have received info from odp editors. If you continue to submit your site to the flowers directory you are just not submitting to the right place. You sell all kinds of stuff - so you should submit to General Merchandise as I suggested. You can either take the suggestion or not - I highly suggest you follow my advice. Have a great day!

I just resubmitted to the category "General Merchandise" as you suggested. I did not receive any info from an editor or I'm checking in the wrong place, but I have checked the email that's in my profile and nothing was there. I couldn't find a link to private messages on this forum. Where should I check. Hopefully, my site will get included now

What kind of information are you expecting to receive? You will more than likely receive no notification of whether or not your site has been listed or not listed and it could be years before the site is reviewed. You have submitted your site to the best category you could find. The only thing you can do now is patiently wait. Eventually and editor will review the submission but there is absolutely no way for us to know when that will happen and posting in this forum will not in any way facilitate the review process.

Hi, I submitted back in November 2003 for the first time. Posted on April 2004 to find out the progress of my submission and got no useful response. I would appreciate an update on the submission status of my site www.giftsandflorals.com.

Let's see:

1. You were told that you had submitted repeatedly to the wrong category.

2. You were told that your previous submissions had been declined because of the incorrect submissions.

3. You were given a suggested category to which you should submit and you apparently acted upon that suggestion.

I'm so sorry that we were unable to provide you with a useful response. We will try harder in the future.


Meanwhile, one of your earlier missubmissions resurfaced in Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Home_and_Garden/Decor_and_Design/Artificial_Flowers and was moved by the editor to Shopping/Gifts where it will probably be moved again or deleted when a qualified Shopping editor gets to it. (This happens because only a small percentage of editors follow this foum.)
