Hi:

In the summer of 2002 and after 10 years of doing business as Ideal Marketing Associates, Inc., I changed my firm's name to Advanced Marketing Consultants, Inc.

I believe I submitted a title change request to reflect my new
business name in June 2002. I believe I also resubmitted my
firm's name change once or twice again in 2003 to:
http://dmoz.org/Business/Small_Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/

Please advise me of the status of my site's title change request.

Thanks.

Okay, I checked on this. I found that the title change has already been done.

Because of our recent upgrade efforts, it doesn't appear on the publicly viewable pages yet. Be assured that it will appear, and that any directories that use our data will get the correct title on the next data dump they take, even if it hasn't appeared on our public page by then.

"...directories that use our data will get the correct title on the next data dump they take"
Any information about how often the following occurs for:

Alexa?
All the Web?
AltaVista?
Google?
HotBot?

Any feedback about how your system works would be greatly appreciated... Thanks.

Whoa Doggies!!! I ran a search for my title change at your site
and it didn't come up. However, I did just go into my category
and indeed found the change had been implemented!

Thanks.

The site title change I requested and saw implemented just 10 days ago under this category: http://dmoz.org/Business/Small_Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/

and although never reflected in the main directory results - has since been nullified and returned to the original title.

As you can imagine - I am baffled...

Any ideas as to why? What action do I need to take in order
to get the title change implemented again?

The title is still Advanced Marketing Consultants. You may have been looking at old data on one of the ODP's 3 servers. Give it some more time (a week or more) and you should be able to see the updated title again.

The name has not been reverted - you seem to be seeing an old version of the public page. (Last Update should be Aug 27 at the moment.) When I went back to the public directory to double-check just now I also got an old version at first and had to reload the page to get the current version - these updating issues have to do with the recent hardware upgrade and should be temporary, and in the meantime your site is definitely in the database with the title "Advanced Marketing Consultants".

Hope this made it somewhat clearer

Thanks - indeed after refreshing the page my screen was painted with the August 27 version.

While on the subject... can you explain why the title change appears in the category itself: Business: Small Business: Marketing and Advertising  (128) yet not under the search
for Advanced Marketing?

The old title Ideal Marketing Associates instead appears - is it because the search database was last updated on August 14th?

Which results are distributed to your partners? The former or the latter? Neither? When do they pick the data up?

Thanks again for your help and insight.

We don't control when the database propagates to the various servers. If everything is working correctly, according to the new scheme, all our servers of every flavor will have been updated within 19 days.

If everything isn't working correctly....they won't.

The propagation code is new (since the last server upgrades, obviously), and we don't yet have a good feel for how it will work in practice.

Which is to say, "we don't know, but it will happen soon ...it's easier for you to look for it, than for you to ask us to, um, look for it."

The RDF dump, which is what our downstream data users get and use in their directories, is made about weekly and contains the latest data. When they pick it up and update their sites is nothing we have any control over - you'll have to ask them about that I'm afraid ;)

Today - I noticed Alexa has received your data and has modified my site title. This occurred over a time period of about 21 days from the date of my first post in this forum.

I understand you have no control over when or how your down stream data users integrate the information. Nor do I expect anyone to monitor the outcomes. I am attempting to develop an understanding of how things work from those who already know... which you both have provided
to me.

Thanks again.
