Re:

Your site is still waiting in the queue, rather small one btw. I would expect that the next editor who is around would process your entry <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Btw, looking at your site I was unable to find a brick and mortar address. No influence on a listing, but _I_ would never buy at a company from which I havent got the address...

Re:

Technically, it may be true that lack of content address is not an absolute bar to getting an ODP listing. But the site lists prices in British pounds and yet does not give a contact address, so it may have been deleted for being an illegal site. Or it may have been deleted because of repeated Javascript errors when viewed on the Infernal Exploder. Or it may have been deleted because some editor more clever than I figured out that it was an affiliate site--which is one possibility that an editor must always consider*.

*(Remember that it is not the editor's responsibility to add every site that manages to conceal its affiliate status so cleverly that we can't detect it. Nor is it to prove to anyone that a site is an affiliate. It's simply to add sites that demonstrably add value to the directory by their unique content. I couldn't do that here, because it was too difficult to find the unique content -- even if all the other possible problems had been addressed.)

Re:

A tactfully-phrased question.

I did look at several sites while I was in there. But I've looked again:

- I cannot confirm the British pounds, so that must have been another site. (they all look alike...)

- I am still seeing Javascript errors.

- I am still not seeing contact information.

- I still can't either confirm or deny that it's an affiliate site.

Re:

I have added the contact information to the "Contact Us" page. I have also added an error page that instructs users how to enable java scripting in their browser in the event that they have it disabled. This is the only reason any javascript errors should appear on my site. I do not know how I could possibly "prove" that I am not running an affiliate site, but I assure you I am not. I am an owner of a small business, I have a retail front, I am looking to open two more in the next few months, and learning the ins and outs of marketing a small business on the web. I apologize for my response as I did not mean for it to seem evasive. I was simply unsure about the description. I am, by no means, trying to "pull the wool" over the eyes of the DMOZ editors, I am simply trying to get my website listed in the most appropriate category to ensure that web visitors can find the content they are seeking when visiting my site. I really appreciate you taking the time to point out the areas for improvement in my website, and hope that you, or anyone else who may volunteer their time to edit the editor-less category I have chosen to submit my site to, take the changes I have made into consideration when reviewing my site, and understand that if anything else needs to be done to bring my site to within the guideline of DMOZ, if that is not currently the case, I will gladly make those changes.

Thanks

Re:

I would suggest you also submit at the locality of your business http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/N/Nacogdoches/Business_and_Economy/ , especially if you have a 'bricks and mortar' store.

A Regional listing may be faster, and should not affect whether or not you are listed in Topical as well (Shopping is a Topic).

I don't see any Javascript errors, but I'm using IE6.1 - many editors use other browsers and IE is very forgiving of errors that show up on stricter browsers.

I did a quick look for a leather case for a Motorola v3620, and your price was not identical to any of the first 25 google matches (but I wasn't prepared to look at all 7,570 sites.)

If you set your own prices the you should mention that fact in your submission. Unfortunately you are in a very abuse prone industry - I'm not commenting on you, your site, or your business practices, but the industry in general is so competitive that we are constantly bombarded by mirrors, doorways, and 'affiliate' sites. For our purposes affiliate is not just a site that resells on behalf of a supplier for a commission, but one of a number of sites selling the same product at the same (or very similar) price, without offering any information the purchaser cannot find elsewhere.

It's not a case of changing your site to meet DMOZ 'standards', the site lives or dies by content alone. The suggestions offered earlier were not reasons that your site specifically would be excluded.

Contact details (whilst not mandatory in many countries) help build trust with the purchaser (that, after all, is your goal) It's no good being listed somewhere, or even coming in #1 on a search engine if no one buys from your site.

Pointing out errors is certainly a sticky thing, but we list sites that have errors that don't affect useability, it' can be as simple as the designer has a plugin installed that he/she doesn't see errors, or a site is designed to only work in the browser the designer uses, and it's not checked in other browsers.

I'm sorry I don't edit shopping and can't deal with your site myself. One reason I don't is because I still have problems looking deeply enough to spot the affiliated sites <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Best of luck with your business, but remember that you don't *need* a DMOZ listing. You can be crawled directly by Google and other search engines by submitting directly to them.

Re:

Thank you for the information. I had no I dea it would be benificial to mention that I set my own pricing. I definitely do. The prices on my website change at least weekly. We may very well sell products that are the same or similiar as other sites in our industry. But we strive to offer very competitive pricing, and aim for repeat customers that are very happy with the prices we offer and the service they recieve. I really appriciate the feedback on both my website and the information on the guidlines and general practices of submission to DMOZ. Please let me know if the status of my submission has changed since the original request.

Thanks

Re:

It's awaiting review in that category with less than half-a-dozen other sites. PLEASE leave at LEAST one month between enquiries (you last enquired on the 21st of December and it's only the 7th of January in my timezone so far).

Re:Status: mobiledestination.com

It's still in the queue I'm afraid. Things have been slow recently but the new server upgrades should see some movement in the unreviewed queues some time soon.
