www.nicgrabhosting.net

I submitted www.nicgrabhosting.net to this category

Top: Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Hosting about 12 months ago, and have been resubmitting once every two months or so.

I know that this category is very specific and accurately categorizes my web site. I tried to follow the official ODP guidelines as much as possible.

I have seen other new hosting sites list after I have applied so I must be doing something wrong. Please give me some guides how to list my site without troubles.

Thank you in advance.

Hi I am confused, these are two seperate web sites, two seperate companies owned by I.T. Solutions Group.

What would I need to do to Qualify for nicgrabhosting.net to be listed.

Nicgrab.com was opened 2/2001 and is a domain registration website. It does not provide hosting services. There are links on the site to nicgrabhosting.net.

Nicgrabhosting.net was opened on 7/2001 and is a hosting website. We do not offer any services on this web site that is performed by Nicgrab.com again other than links.

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate the feedback

From the post:
>>We do not offer any services on this web site that is performed by Nicgrab.com again other than links.

From the nicgrabhosting.net:
>>Our company provides ... top-level domain registration ...

We generally go with what the website says: but in this case it is easy to see that both websites offer the same services from the same people in the same office in the same building. We really don't care whether or not the WEBSITE is all sitting in the same PARTITION on the same DISK DRIVE on the same MACHINE.

Another thing that confuses many people is the domain-name-versus-website distinction; and therefore they'll buy multiple domain names to get multiple directory listings. This is, first of all, not necessary: a single website can get multiple listings. And it is not sufficient--it takes more than content spread out over multiple domains to be considered as multiple websites.

So are you saying if I remove the references to domain registration then the site can qualify for an OD listing.

If we were to remove all reference to domain registration off the nicgrabhosting website, specifically, does nicgrabhosting being owned by the same company and operated out of the same location as nicgrab.com disqualify nicgrabhosting from a seperate listing.

I am just trying to understand based on the reference you made to see how easy it was to find .....

Regards

Actually, no. I think it would then qualify as a skunk in the mailbox: it might not get noticed for a while, but when an editor looked closely ...

Really, we aren't trying to reward information-hiding. The ODP model is very much oriented the other way.

My understanding is that you'd have a BETTER chance to get a URL like nicgrab.net/hosting.htm (which looks like a potentially listable legitimate deeplink) than nicgrabhosting.net (which looks like a vanity URL designed to conceal the real provider of the advertised services.)

My knowledge of the area is limited, though, so I am carefully NOT saying whether either of them could actually get a listing. Perhaps a more experienced Computers editor could address that.

A bit more information.

I made some inquiries, and was told that the ODP practice is, if a COMPANY offers web development and ANYTHING ELSE AT ALL, its SITE OF CHOICE will receive ONE listing (under Web Designers) whose description will also mention the other services they offer (dns registration, website hosting, pet care ... well, maybe not pet care.)

If this is correct (and I have no reason to believe that it's not) your company is already listed IN THE RIGHT PLACE, but (if the description doesn't mention website hosting) perhaps NOT WITH THE RIGHT DESCRIPTION.) You can request a description change using the UPDATE URL button on your company's current listing. If their website design approach involves spreading out their products over multiple domains, then you should make sure that it's easy to get to all of them from the home page as listed in the directory (but isn't that a basic principle of good web design for honest companies anyway? -- and in fact it looks like you've already done that. I do like the layout of your home page--very easy for a visitor to see what all you do, and how to get to the product or service of interest.)

It has nothing to do with your location.

Generally, in Web Design and Development, a root URL is listed. As hutcheson says, you can access all of your services from one place.

https://www.nicgrab.com/cgi-bin/reg_system.cgi?action=hosting_only

As demonstrated by that URL to order your services, you can access all your services from one place, because the only difference between your ordering is the 'action=etc' part of the URL.

Hi,

The URL you mention "https://www.nicgrab.com/cgi-bin/reg_system.cgi?action=hosting_only
" is not for our web hosting site. We sell a product on the Nicgrab.com web site called DNSPlus (DNS Forwarding) that uses this URL so the customer can purchase DNS and attach that dns to the domain name they are purchasing. The version of the OpenSRS software that I am using can also support hosting features (which I do not use and will never us) that is whey the link is referred to hosting_only rather than dnsplus_only.

Currently Nicgrab.com is only focused on domain registration and dns forwarding. The key words and description in the ODP reflect that but do not reflect the other 2/3 of what nicgrabhosting.net provides.

If you will not allow me to add the nicgrabhosting.net web site to the OPD, can you help me change the description and place the nicgrab listing in both the domain registration and web hosting categories. Is that possible?

Thanks for your help and advice.
