Dear Editior:
My site is currently in this directory:

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Middle_East/Iran/Business_and_Economy/Internet/Directories/

I sumbitted an application on 4-11-02 so that the site could also be considered in the news catagory:

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Middle_East/Iran/News_and_Media/

I wrote a detailed letter but haven't heard anything yet. The site also has extensive info about the Middle East. Is it possible to be listed in additional catagories? It would probably also fit in this catagory:

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Middle_East/Guides_and_Directories/

So far, several educational institutions have linked to this page (I can provided you with the links if requested):

http://www.parstimes.com/M1.html

I have devoted a lot of time on other subjects and my site isn't just a directory about a specific country. So, I would like to be considered for additional catagories.

Is it possible that you could check into this?

Regards,

I don't have editing access to the cats you mentioned, so I can't comment on that, but I would like to say this:

(to all submitters, not just to qh7, which I didn't have any probs with in this instance): I see that a lot of people on this forum mention that 'My site is linked from several predominate places, which should get me into the directory'. If your site has affiliate links galore over regular content, no unique content and such, it doesn't matter if you are linked from the Vatican's page, the White House's page and Monica Lewinsky's homepage, you still won't get in.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I mainly wanted to know if it's possible to be listed in other categories and how to go about doing that. My understanding is that you cannot submit a separate application for each category. So, after my site was listed I just followed the instructions and asked to be considered for an additional category. Of course, I realize that this is solely at the editors discretion. After reading some of the posts here, I realized that waiting 2 months for a reply isn't uncommon. So, I will just wait for a reply by mail.

Your current listing is valid for the Regional branch and your site is not appropriate for News and Media because your site is a directory. Just because it links to news sites does not make it a news site - it is a directory.

You might be able to get another listing if you can find a place outside of Regional where your site might fit and also if you have any different language versions of your site submit them to the appropriate category in World.

Good Luck and hope this helps -

The reason that I made the request to be listed under News & Media was that I noticed that 2 other Iranian directories have been listed in the News & Media Category too. One has a subscription to a major news wire and the other one mainly provides links to the top stories. I have a similar page:

http://www.parstimes.com/news/

The news page features current news, oil & gas and economy. An archive of news is also available and one can check the news from several months ago. Also the audio & Video section (Persian/English) features news, culture, and sports files with a reference section and links.

The question is that whether this page satisfies the minimum requirement for the News & Media page. I explained most of this in my April 11, 2002 letter.

My second question is whether it's possible to apply under the Middle East Guide category too.

Again, thank you very much for your reply.

Listing a site in more than one category is very rare. Editors look for the category that the site best fits into, and list it there. It is possible to have a listing in a Regional category, and in a category in the Topical area of the directory, but usually, they will not get listed twice in the same tree.

This means that the consideration will not be whether your site fits in the News and Media category, but whether it fits *better* in the News and Media category or the Internet/Directories category. It sounds like it is placed correctly at this point.

I understand your logic. I have submitted the site to other sources too . Usually, they have deep linked to the pages that were of interest to them. On the other hand, some have linked to the main URL .
My background is in finance and investments and I have also included a webguide with heavy emphasis on business and personal finance subjects. It's consumer oriented. Maybe I can submit the site in the webguide category (http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=webguide). The alternative would be to submit to personal finance : http://dmoz.org/Home/Personal_Finance/ .
I am not sure where it would fit best. Should one just submit the page URL or the main URL?
At any rate, I would appreciate the feedback.
