I can see your site in the queue, along with 350 odd others. Was that really the most specific category you could find?

I believe it is, I carefully looked at the sub-categories. TheBeachcats.com is about sailing the small beach catamarans known as beachcats. There should probably be a sub-category named Catamarans or Multi-Hulls, but there isn't.

This type boat is never referred to as a Dinghy, it's not an Iceboat, or a Kiteboat, the site isn't about racing, and these aren't the boats known as "Trailer Sailors".

Any help would be appreciated.

From the description of the class category:

"Please submit only web sites that are devoted to a particular Class of sailboat"

If you look at the websites in that category you will see what that means. A class is one particular boat, sort of a brand/model combination. If my site was about the Hobie 16 or the Shark or the Tornado or the Dart 16, etc., it would belong in the Class category.

I assumed BeachCat was a tradename, and that would obviously mean that they were all the same class. Like I said, I know nothing about boating. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

I see. <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" /> No, beachcat is just a generic term for small "beachable" catamarans. I run a Yahoogroup for these boats called Beachcats, thus, the website is the headquarters of "The Beachcats".

I'm just hoping to make it into the directory.

Hmm. This is a case where you might get quicker service by proposing a new category. Give us a "charter" -- that is, a one-or-two-paragraph description of what it should cover, and five or six sites that could go into it (including those are already listed in the parent category but should go into the new subcat.)

As a side effect of this, there would be a new subcategory suitable for applications from new editors.
This is the way we find gaps in our taxonomic coverage. (And this is the way some fairly active editors got started.)

I'd be glad to: <img src="/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />

Proposed Category
Top: Recreation: Boating: Sailing: Multihulls

Web sites submitted to the Multihulls category should focus on any type of Multihull sailboat. This includes, but is not limited to, catamarans, proas, trimarans, and hybrid crafts such as sailing outriggers.

If the site is exclusively about a particular class of multihull, a dealer site, or an official manufacturers site, it should not be placed here.

---- Sites in the sailing category that belong in multihulls ----

http://www.cat-alist.com/
http://www.cata-island.com/
http://www.multihulls.com/

---- A site in dinghys that should be in multihulls
http://www.worrell1000.com/

---- A site in Top: Sports: Water Sports: Canoe and Kayaking: Outrigger that would move to this new category----
http://home.swbell.net/eliz-kev/proa_page.html

---- sites I would add to DMOZ in the multihulls category ----

TheBeachcats
Community site about sailing small catamaran sailboats known as beachcats, includes news, tips, pictures, and classified ads. Home of the Beachcats mailing list.

Florida Multihull Sailor
News of multihull regattas in Florida, contains race schedules, reviews, and photography.

Beachcats
UK site covers the European catamaran race news, has reviews, photography, and discussion of boat designs.

Outrigger Sailing Canoes
Covers all types of outrigger sailing conoes and proas known as flying or Micronesian proas. Includes history and specifications of proas from 16 to 52 feet.

http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Boating/Sailing/Multihulls/ has now been created! <img src="/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" /> (your site is currently in the queue there with a dozen other sites: the main categories unreviewed queue was over 350 and I've just managed to get it to under 200 by deleting quite a lot of spam, deeplinks, duplicate submissions and moving to the appropriate World/ category any sites in foreign languages)

I've moved all of the applicable sites to the appropriate category (bar http://home.swbell.net/eliz-kev/proa_page.html - as I'm not sure about that site at the moment) and I'm currently working my way moving down all the applicable unreviewed sites.

If you are going to apply to be an editor for that category, add details about this thread (including it's URL) in the field marked "Explain your interest in the subject of the category for which you are applying to edit". Include the quite good site reviews you listed below (as long as they aren't all your own sites: remember to declare any/all affiliations in the box labelled 'Sites with which you are associated') and apply away!

I've a feeling if you can impress a meta editor as much as you've just managed to impress me, you'll make a damn good editor! <img src="/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />

Thanks! <img src="/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" /> I went ahead and filled out the application to become an editor in the new category. I don't know if this forum and the ODP use a common username base, but I couldn't get the username damon, so I put damon18.

I used three of the four sites I mentioned earlier for my example submissions. By the way, only TheBeachcats.com is my site.

Thanks for the help, this turned into quite a journey from checking on my site submission.

Wow, does this mean we have a new editor in Recreation/Boating <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

I sure will enjoy this. You are correct in stating that the category needed a Multihulls subcat. There is currently a proposal to reorganize the Recreation/Boating category and editors may look at the proposal in the internal Recreation forums.

Take Care,
Dave

Aha, once again the forums pay for themselves.

Yes, very nice work indeed. And another human's knowledge added to the pool.

Please start a new thread for queries about other sites. Remember to include the site URL in the "Subject" of the new thread and include a cut'n'pasted URL path of the category you submitted to.

This is done so that people can easily watch threads which interest them and that editors 'know' which issues have been 'dealt' with.
