I added my site to DMOZ about 8 months ago, and again 23 months ago (roughly) to the Shopping\Jewellery category. I think I added it to costume jewellery but I hadn't realised at the time that it was important to keep a record of this. Please could someone tell me the status of the site?

Hi, sorry about that. I think its the category below. If you can't find my site there, should I submit other links of where I might have placed it? (I sell a variety of jewellery so it could have fitted in many places)

and that category has a moderate number of unreviewed (under 50).

I cannot find your site in the unreviewed of the category you said you submitted to and that category has a big backlog. You can submit your site to that category again but it will probably take a while to get reviewed there.

Thanks The Helper. Providing I've submitted it to the correct place, it sounds like its best to keep it where it is (wish there was good way of seeing which is best fit).

Is there anywhere on the help where it tells you how long a backlock of 50 would take (on average) to be reviewed?

I hate to give you a canned answer but its really all I can do -

Due to the volunteer nature of the directory it is impossible to give you an estimate of the time it will take for a site to be reviewed. If you like, you can check back for another status update in a month. If you do, please bookmark this thread and reuse it for that query.

There is really no way to tell. From my experience I notice Regional submissions tend to get reviewed faster than ones in backed up shopping or business categories.

your submission is still pending, as thehelper explained it is impossible to tell how long before a site is reviewed. There is no set way an editor has to edit, therefore there is no specific order a site pends review in so I can't say exactly where you are. It is still waiting in that category, however.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Just wanted to explain that I wasn't asking if you knew how long it would be before my site is reviewed, but if you knew if it was (for example) the next site to be reviewed or the 49th site to be reviewed. If there is no way of telling, does this mean that I could be waiting for 6 months for my site to be reviewed, but a site that submits 5 months after me could be reviewed first?

Yes, you've understood it exactly. The sites people send to us are not so much submissions as suggestions - editors are under no obligation to review them in any particular order, or, indeed, at all.

However, most editors do review suggestions, and sooner or later somebody will get to your site. There is just no way of telling when that will be, neither in absolute terms nor in relation to any other suggested sites.

I'm quite happy to not bother you with status updates, as I can tell from the 'Last Edited' field on the category screen whether the category has been looked at, and also I can see any new sites added.

However, I'm assuming that if our site has been looked at, and rejected for any reason, we wouldn't be told that, and this forum is the only way to find that out?

Correct. The only way to tell if your site is still waiting for review or has been reviewed but declined is to ask here.

I wasn't sure if the 'correct' in your last reply meant that I was correct in saying 'Pending' or I was correct in saying I had to use this forum to find out if the site had been rejected.
