You have created new and better categories

Hello,

This is not a status check. I submitted my site over 6 months ago and my site is still not listed. Since then, you have created a new and much better category for my website. When my site is finally reviewed, I'd much rather be listed in this new category. What do I do? Should I re-submit (and start over), or is there someone to contact who can edit my submission?

You can either wait until it is reviewed and then (if necessary) submit a request to have it moved or you can submit to the new category. If the new category is indeed the right place for it, chances are the reviewing editor in the first category will move it there anyway where it will start waiting all over again so I'd go with option two and just submit it there now.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I will re-submit, but I will wait to see what you have to say after reading this.

At the time I made my original submission, I submitted to one of those lettered categories. http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Jewelry/Varied_Merchandise/K/ It seemed the only place I could submit and follow the suggestions in the category descriptions.

Now I see this category, http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Jewelry/Supplies/Gemstones/Faceted/ which is new and since we specialize in Alexandrite (mainly loose gemstones, but also sell jewelry) this looks to be the most appropriate category.

This is just a feeling, but if I was an editor, I would stay out of those lettered categories because they are not very interesting and nobody goes there anyway. So, submitting to a new category might get my site noticed sooner.

Don't submit your site based on where you think it might get reviewed faster. If you submit to the wrong category based on that supposition, you could end up waiting significantly longer than you ordinarily would because the editor in the wrong category would send your site to the right category to start waiting all over again.

Yes, that is good advice, but I do think that my site would fit better in the newly created category, and I also think that my site would benefit much more from being there as well.

So do you think that it would be a good idea to re-submit (hypothetically)?

If you think it fits there better, then by all means resubmit it there.
