Guest mslina2002 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I submitted my site http://www.teacakesandteddybears.com last year in this category: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Massachusetts/Localities/W/Westford/ Can you please check my status? Many thanx! Lina
Alucard Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 The URL is awaiting editorial review in category http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Massachusetts/Localities/W/Westford/Business_and_Economy/ Thanks.
Guest mslina2002 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Thank you. Would this category be a good choice since it may be less popular? How long do you suppose this would take? From some of the posts I've read here seem like it can take a long time. Thanks and cool avvy btw!
Alucard Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 It's not a question of popularity, it's a question of which category is the most appropriate. That is how we list sites in the ODP. Editor reviews can be anywhere from two minutes to over two years, I'm afraid, and there is no way of predicting which end of that it's going to be.
Meta hutcheson Posted February 24, 2004 Meta Posted February 24, 2004 >Would this category be a good choice since it may be less popular? Well, we can either put every single site in the most popular category, or we can put every site in the most specific category that it fits. The former approach is called a "free-for-all link farm." There are thousands of them on the net. Feel free to submit to them all. The latter approach is called a "directory." And in answer to your question, we think it is a much better approach. But if you disagree, the others are there waiting for you. Now in English, there are really only two large directories, and we are (by about a factor of three, IIRC) the larger. The largest directory has the most specific category breakdown, so your site will probably be in a more specific category here than anywhere else on the net. As to the second question, the short answer is "we can't possibly know how long it will take." But our experience is that regional categories usually have shorter waits, not that that makes any difference to us either. If you're looking for zero wait, see "FFALF" above.
Guest mslina2002 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 But our experience is that regional categories usually have shorter waits I submitted to regional category because my services are not widely available and my state's name is one of my main keywords, plus also hoping that it would be a shorter wait. I definitely do not want to use any link farms though. Thanks for your input and any other suggestions/comments/criticism I appreciate.

Meta hutcheson Posted September 27, 2004 Meta Posted September 27, 2004 Unless you check and see it listed, there won't be any news (of any kind) till Feb. 25, per forum rules.
lina2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Oh sorry! I didn't realize I had to wait 6 months for my next status request. I will check back in 6 months....for a status update....
lina2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Thank you for all your help! I was just listed today!!!
Meta hutcheson Posted November 12, 2004 Meta Posted November 12, 2004 Thanks for the note. Someone reading this forum could easily get the impression no sites ever get listed, because only long-waiting submitters ever post here. It's good to know the right perspective on ODP reality (as opposed to fantasy theories) is visible from outside.
