Guest Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Went to resubmit my site as I couldnt remember if I had at the time I did other submissions and wasnt sure which of two cats i had anyway if I had. However after hitting the submit button it said at the bottom of the page site already listed but I am unable to find it. If it was already submitted and only got accepted in the last few days when would it show in a search or catagory? as I ve looked in all the cats I can think of it could be in and theres not that many and run the mouse over every url to see what shows in the browser in case the title and description was changed. Got free listed in Yahoo within 4 days (about a month ago) so thought I would check DMOZ about now. site is http://www.specialist-online-dictionary.com/index.html its been getting some good traffic so I'm looking to add about a hundred language specific pages when i get them done and it would be nice if listed in DMOZ. thanks
Guest Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Your site is halfway to being listed. It was greenbusted in Reference: Dictionaries: Links and Resources and is waiting to be published. Greenbusting is an internal program to allow editors to review sites in categories they do not normally have permissions in, prior to it being checked and approved for listing by a resident editor. They are displayed seperately, and are usually published soon after. Shouldn't be long. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
giz Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Oh, and the ODP Search function is often about a week behind in being able to find sites that are listed in the Directory itself (or still finds sites that have actually been deleted recently).
Guest Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Thanks, sorry about the second submission today, thought something like that might have happened, knew I should have waited until the weekend instead of filling a few hours at work reading forums.
Guest Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 thanks, when will the public directory be updated so it will show listed? I know there have been some maintainence issues recently and wondered how often the pblic directory is updated.
beebware Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 It was listed in that category between 15 Sept 2002 and 06 Oct 2002 when it was removed as it seemed low quality to a higher-up editor. Personally, http://www.specialist-online-dictionary.com/ is now referring me straight to http://www.1amazingincome.com/dictionary/ so that may be another reason for the sites removal under the first URL (see the ODP editor guidelines for URL cloaking.)
Guest Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 Two issues, 1 the frame redirect is done by my host as it is hosted at the same domain as the other url and I had to put it in a subdirectory there. I have tried to get it directed another way as although it is listed in Google it isnt getting spidered correctly. I have no access to the redirect just when I manage the domain name at my host I get a webform to comlete with title, description, keywords and subdirectory of main url it should point to. I cant even fill in any noframe text that is done by my host and it is just another link to the main url subdirectory. didnt want to pay for a whole seperate hosting package for a site that will probably only be less than 20mb at most, when I had plenty of space and bandwidth at the original main url. 2. Low quality? It was listed for free by Yahoo in days and has already been picked up by a number of other sites as a must see site also i get about a thousand unique visits to it a day. One mans low quality is anothers meat and potato's. In fact due to the popularity of it I have decided to add more individual pages on the various subjects with reviews etc, but this will take time due to a day job and not a lot of online time outside work. I originally put it together as a resource for myself and colleagues who were always looking for quick access to the type of sites listed being an international medical/scientific company needing easy translation and medical, scientific, pharmacutical terms lookup. So if it could be reconsidered please.
