mikedbh Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 One of my competitors is listed under two categories for the exact same URL. I havent submitted my site yet, but it too would actually seem to be perfectly and very relevant under both of these categories, as is my competitor. My question is: is my competitor doing something illegal, in which case should i report him (if so, can i do that in this post--?), OR, is this multiple listing sometimes acceptable and can i also submit my site under these two categories? Thank you.
mikedbh Posted March 12, 2004 Author Posted March 12, 2004 I will add that the two main categories are Shopping and Business. In other words, this isn't a regional type of thing, etc.
samiam Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 > is my competitor doing something illegal, in which case should i report him Illegal? No. While we have our guidelines and rules, they aren't laws . That said, the answer is that it depends. Multiple listings are allowed in certain circumstances, and are especially encouraged in others. However, that said, our submission instructions say to "Identify the single best category for your site. The Open Directory has an enormous array of subjects to choose from. You should submit a site to the single most relevant category." > (if so, can i do that in this post--?), No. Please see the stickies in this forum. Abuse reporting should be either with the Public Abuse Report Form or by sending feedback to a Meta Editor. The abuse form is probably the best way to go. This is probably not really abuse, but you can bring it to our attention with that form. > OR, is this multiple listing sometimes acceptable and can i also submit my site under these two categories? While it is sometimes acceptable, but you should submit your site to the *one* appropriate category that best suits your site. See above. Hope this helps.
