My Partner recently submitted our web-design site to:

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/C/

The rules for this section require that the site be submitted to the page letter that corresponds to the first letter of the company name.

The company name is: The Click-IT Team Ltd.

The site url is: http://www.click-it-team.co.uk

In another ODP forum thread I noted a remark from an editor that alpha numeric listings in the directory ignore the word "The" at the start of a site title and list under the 2nd word... hence the reason for submitting to the "C" section...

Thus far the listing has not been added (I know they can take some time depending on the queue for the category in question) but I also noticed that the "T" section for this category contains companies beginning with "The" (although all of these names have no blank space after the "The")!

I'm just slightly concerned that the editor in question may have deleted the submission on account of it's being in the wrong alpha-section...

Would you please be kind enough to check this for me and let me know if it's still in the queue (and if so - under which letter)?

Thanks in advance :)

Sorry - I can't answer your specific question as I don't edit in that part of the directory.

I would suggest however that you also consider submitting your site to the appropriate subcategory of http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Gloucestershire/ where an editor may 'consider' it for a listing based on your regional locality. Of course suggesting does not guarentee a listing but an editor can check all the same and it will not have any effect on your former submission.

Thanks Leer, I submitted it too:

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Gloucestershire/Business_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/

I don't think it went through correctly though...

The browser stalled for an awfully long time and when I tried to resubmit it I got a 404 page...

I don't want to get banned for spamming the directory...

Perhaps somebody would be kind enough to check and tell me if that submission is successfully received too...

lol guess it's not my lucky year :(

It's not waiting there, but that is not the correct place for it anyway. Submit to http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Gloucestershire/Gloucester/Business_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet if you would like to try again. (there should have been a link between the 2 -- it appears one is on the way to the public side as we speak)

As far as I can tell there is a single office (Regional listings are, for the most part, predicated on locations, not service areas)

There is actually little on the site about its regional significance, apart from an address. Do you have an office there or is it a mail drop, do you have face to face client interaction, can I pay my bill there?

I'ts up to the editor that reviews the site whether they consider it has Regional content, but just something to think about.

Thanks Gimmster...

I thought there was something strange going on with those categories, they seem to be changing still so I will wait a while before applying for a regional listing... (To answer your question we have our office here and customers can (and do) call in to view design work, discuss requirements, pay bills etc but it's a webdesign business so our customers are worldwide... (as with most webdesign companies) - but it is situated in Gloucester!

I am still looking for an answer to my original question about the submission to the alphabetical category though... If the/one of the - editors with access to that area could take a look for me I'd be grateful :)

In the "alphabetical category" there awaits a submission dated 15/Feb/2004. Thanks.

Thank you Alucard,

I hope it's under the correct letter :)
