ShelleyD Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Hello I have a sports baseball cap website that I would like to get listed with the DMOZ. After hearing some positive things I decided to look around and see what information I could gather about the DMOZ. Judging from this forum there doesn’t seem to be many satisfied people. There are of course two sides to every story so I will rule these opinions out. Judging from the information in the category listings I have referenced, there seems to be some problems with the listings. There are broken links and the category hasn’t been updated for 3 months. Basically my concern is that submitting to this category would be a bad idea as it seems to be one of the ones that has been given little attention. If I decide to submit my website, should I submit up one category even though the category doesn’t really speak for my product? Maybe in this area I might have a better chance of getting in since the other one appears to be less managed For a visual This is the concern category http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Casual/Caps_and_Hats/Sports/ This is the up category http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Casual/Caps_and_Hats/ If there is another category I am overlooking that you know of, please let me know. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Shelley

There are of course two sides to every story so I will rule these opinions out. Yes - as we know from all areas of life, dissatisfaction tends to speak more loudly than satisfaction. Most webmasters whose sites are added are not aware of it, and those who are will generally only post here if there's something wrong. And that's lucky since several thousand sites are added every week Judging from the information in the category listings I have referenced, there seems to be some problems with the listings. There are broken links and the category hasn’t been updated for 3 months. Basically my concern is that submitting to this category would be a bad idea as it seems to be one of the ones that has been given little attention. Thanks for the heads up. I'm checking that category for broken links as I type. (It will take up to a week before the changes are visible on the public side, though) If I decide to submit my website, should I submit up one category even though the category doesn’t really speak for my product? Maybe in this area I might have a better chance of getting in since the other one appears to be less managed No, don't submit a level up. After whatever waiting time there is before your site is reviewed where you've submitted it, the editor will move it a level down where it will as likely as not wait again for another review in the best category. It is always, without exception a bad idea to submit to a category when you know there is another category that is a better fit. Curlie Meta and kMeta editor nea
