Eat Out My Eyes Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 I was just wondering how to get one, cuz it seems when I try to edit it I can't.
Alucard Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 When you say "I can't" what do you mean? Do you get an error - if so, what error do you get?
bobrat Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 Maybe you want http://www.hotavatars.com/showgallery.php?si=eye&x=0&y=0 or look in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Chat/Virtual_Places/Avatars_and_Gestures/

joeytomatoes Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 Cool, we thought it was based on the # of postings. Thanks for the info. At the moment non-editors on this forum cannot upload custom avatars or profile pictures.
Meta shadow575 Posted August 16, 2004 Meta Posted August 16, 2004 Sorry to bump the thread again, but I went to change my avatar and now I cannot add an avatar back (other than the 6 standards)? Any other editors have any idea what is happening? Was it disabled for editors too? No big deal, just thought I would inquire. dogbows Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Shadow, did you scroll down and re-check "add custom avatar"? I haven't tried to change my adorable avatar, since it is perfect in every respect. lol However, when I tried a few others in the beginning, it always defaulted back to the six, and I had to go through the process again. Just a thought.

Just a thought.[/b'] Dogbows- That option disappeared as soon as I deleted my old avatar so I do not have the option to "add custom" anymore which is why I thought perhaps editors also had avatars disabled. At one time, I had an avatar added but decided to change it to a different one. The first time I logged on as an editor the "add custom" avatar was there but for the last couple of weeks it has been mysteriously absent?? Maybe it is because I am fairly new as an editor and only the more experienced ones get the custom option. Again, no big deal either way but I have a cool supply of avatars I would like to use if possible. Thanks for responding. dogbows Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 No, I do not believe that is the case. I am sure a Moderator or Administrator will check it for you. I am new also, but I think when I was playing with it in the beginning, I did not remove the avatars, I just scrolled down and changed them, so I don't really understand, but someone will check it. The Moderators and Administrators are very kind to the new editors, and have been very helpful to me as a newbie, even with what I am sure they have deemed rediculous little quirks of mine. They are all truly exceptional people. Do I get any Brownie Points for that one?
kctipton Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 I see it as a choice at the bottom of the screen when I click on that part of my control panel.
Meta shadow575 Posted August 16, 2004 Meta Posted August 16, 2004 Nope. I do not have the add custom anywhere?? Weird. I click "edit avatar" and a window opens up that has an empty box that reads "No avatar specified" then it says "Avartars are the small graphics that are displayed under your user name when you post" then Do not use avatar with a circle checked "Note: if you have a custom avatar checking this box will delete it" Pre-defined avatars has six to choose from and then two options: Save Changes or Reset Fields Underneath all that, is nothing until the small print at the bottom. Just strange that I apparently am the only one not seeing it. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Not a real big deal, but would be nice to personalize it a bit. dogbows Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Just one more question. Have you tried checking and/or un-checking the "Do not use Avatar" Box?
Meta shadow575 Posted August 16, 2004 Meta Posted August 16, 2004 Yes I tried to un-check it. Since there are no other options though it has no effect. I went through after my last post and changed it to one of the pre-determined avatars, then saved it and went back and tried to change again. still no luck finding an "add Custom button" maybe I am just going blind but I cannot find it anywhere on any of the options/menu's. It is very strange . Maybe I am destined to remain faceless Might be better that way anyway, although when I did have a custom avatar it was my son's picture which was nice to look at. I thought though I would go to a graphic vs an actual photo pic which is why I changed in the first place. Should left it as is and might not have had the problem. Thanks for offering up suggestions though. If you think or hear of anything else to try, I would love to get it working. Thanks much dogbows. donaldb Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 Try it now Shadow. For some reason you were not showing up as an editor in the database even though your profile here was showing you as an editor.
Meta shadow575 Posted August 17, 2004 Meta Posted August 17, 2004 Yea! Thanks donaldb! It is working now. That was weird?? It worked fine when I first had my status updated to editor throught that thread. When I changed my avatar the first time is when it went haywire. Thanks for fixing me. Thanks-dogbows and kctipton too. dogbows Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 You are quite welcome! And I knew as soon as Mr. donaldb showed up, he would find your answer. He always does.
Meta shadow575 Posted August 17, 2004 Meta Posted August 17, 2004 I thought maybe there was an issue with the status of the account, but all things showed up as editor so the only thing missing was this option. Works great now. Thanks again. dogbows Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 And a very nice avatar you have there as well. Almost as good as mine.
Meta shadow575 Posted August 20, 2004 Meta Posted August 20, 2004 DB- Thank you. It is my basic one. I like to keep it simple, but I also have several others to use depending on my mood . You are correct though....not quite as good as yours Shadow *The opinions I offer are my own and may not represent the opinions of Curlie.org or other editors.* It can take anywhere from two hours to several years for a site review to take place. dogbows Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Well, shadow, the part about being almost as good as mine, was just a joke. Your avatar really is neat, but then again, it seems that everyone in this forum has really good avatars.
Meta shadow575 Posted August 20, 2004 Meta Posted August 20, 2004 I was just agreeing with ya DB. Mine was a quick design I came up with. Yours is very fitting (and "cute" like you say) so I tend to agree that yours is better. Now if I switch back to using my 1 year old sons pic then I will have fight'en words with ya if you still think yours is better . dogbows Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Never, ever, would I think my avatar was cuter than a one-year old. But, I have three grandkids, and I might argue that they are cuter. lol
Meta shadow575 Posted August 20, 2004 Meta Posted August 20, 2004 3 - 1 now you win (for now) but give me a few years and see if we don't even the sides up a bit although my wife might have some say in the matter Shadow *The opinions I offer are my own and may not represent the opinions of Curlie.org or other editors.* It can take anywhere from two hours to several years for a site review to take place. gboisseau Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Don, The custom avatar option does not work for me, also. I should be showing as an editor, (hopefully). Could you check? Thanks! Gary
