tharvey Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 I submitted a URL change request for our listing in the following category: http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Test_Equipment/ from www.cwav.com to www.usbee.com in early February. The description, title and location are just fine, but since we have changed over to our new URL, we need the updated listing active as soon as possible. Since no updates have been made, any status would be very much appreciated.
tharvey Posted March 18, 2004 Author Posted March 18, 2004 More info: We originally had www.cwav.com as our main site (included company and product info and services details), and www.usbee.com for our online store (of course to buy our products). We have now moved all pages onto the www.usbee.com site to make it cleaner and have now changed all www.cwav.com pages to point to the new location. This is why we need to change the URL. Anyone know the status? Thanks
Alucard Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 This update has been approved. You did a good job of flagging the new site on the old one, leaving us in no doubt of what was going on. Thank you.
tharvey Posted March 18, 2004 Author Posted March 18, 2004 Thank you! What delay should I expect from approval to it being live on dmoz.org? Thanks again!
spectregunner Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 It takes a week to ten days for the DMOZ public server farm to be completely updated. Prior to that, it is spotty as individual machines are updated. When the users pick up the data is the questoin that no one can answer.
tharvey Posted June 21, 2004 Author Posted June 21, 2004 Problem between Google and DMOZ for our link We (www.usbee.com) are now included in the DMOZ directory (http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Test_Equipment/) and are showing up in the Google Directory listings as well. However the listing in Google shows no PageRank icon to the left as other listings do (even though we have a PR of 6 in our Google toolbar). Contacting Google, they sent the below response to me, indicating that it is a problem between DMOZ and Google. Is there any more information on why this happened and when it should be fixed from the dmoz side? Google writes: Thank you for your note. We are aware of the problem that you are reporting. As you may know, the Google Directory is built on work done by the Open Directory Project, a network of thousands of volunteers managed by Netscape. Please be assured that we are actively working with the ODP to find a solution. We appreciate your patience during this process, and thank you for taking the time to contact us. Regards, The Google Team Original Message Follows: ------------------------ Subject: Why is http://www.usbee.com have no page rank on directory listing? Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2004 11:04:22 -0700 We have a listing in the google directory (http://www.usbee.com) in the category http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Hardware/Test_Equipment/ but our listing has no page rank symbol on the left like all the others. But, when we go to our page, it shows a page rank of 6 in our Google toolbar. Is there a reason why this page rank is not in the directory for us? I have a feeling that this is why the search for the term "logic analyzer" has us miserably deep in the pile.
bobrat Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Since we are not Google and have no control of what they do, we cannot answer Google questions in this forum. Sorry. [i'm not sure why they say they are working with ODP on the problem. Your site is listed in ODP, and there are no technical problems I'm aware of that prevent Google copying that information. That form letter is being sent to everyone. From what I see Google has a lot of problems right now, that are nothing to do with ODP listings, but that is my personal opinion, not a statement from ODP. It's search is broken, it can't find several of my sites that have been there for years. I don't like the fact that Google is blaming ODP for this.]
