cardesign Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 I want to be able to download the current Dmoz data (or certain sections) and then edit that as my own directory. Am I allowed to do this? I have PHP and MySql and about 3gb of space I have had a look at these sites http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/Open_Directory_Project/Use_of_ODP_Data/Upload_Tools/ but I don't know which one does what I want Basically I want to download the data, upload to my server, then allow people to submit links and for me to edit the directory. Thanks
Meta windharp Posted March 20, 2004 Meta Posted March 20, 2004 You might want to have a look at the following pages, they should answer most of your questions (of course not the questions about which software to use...) : - The complete Data is available for download on http://rdf.dmoz.org/ - The license for using ODP data is on http://dmoz.org/license.html - Be sure to include proper attribution like stated on http://dmoz.org/become_an_editor Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
cardesign Posted March 20, 2004 Author Posted March 20, 2004 Thanks Now I just need the software......
giz Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 Be aware that the current and (at least) the next RDF will have some errors in the data while the last of the problems, uncovered by converting the whole directory over to the UTF-8 character set, a few weeks ago (and ongoing), are ironed out.
bobrat Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 We don't provide any, you have to go and look for them, and possibly pay for software or services, or write your own.
giz Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 The only tangible output of the ODP, the "final product" if you like, is the RDF dump of all the category and site data. There is no software, at least there is none from us, to decode or otherwise use that data.
nakulgoyal Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 Re: I see some people have worked hard to convert data into mysql / sql files and indeed they have already written / acquired tools to do that. DMOZ data is too great that everybody is trying to use the hard work of thousands of editors !!
