Becoming a local editor

Recommended Posts

I am really pumped up to become an editor, and hoping that my application goes well. Unfortunately, I've had a pretty rough time submitting it. It's been several weeks, and I just now learned that I should have receieved a confirmation e-mail. I never received one, but after several tries I did get the 'we received your application' page. I guess what I'm trying to say is.....

Can someone please check on my application before I re-submit it?

I applied to my local regional directory for city: Frankenmuth state: Michigan

BTW....cool board....I plan on stickin' around

No applications for Frankenmuth in the queue. Some people have mentioned having difficulty submitting applications with Internet Explorer. You might try submitting your application using Netscape or Mozilla.

Still Struggling with the application process

I have submitted my application again after downloading and using mozilla. The application seems to have gone through, as I received the 'thank you' page after submission, but I never received the confirmation e-mail.

Can someone please check this out for me?

The editor side of DMOZ is offline until tomorrow. We are all locked out. Someone will check it for you later, but due to the 'work in progress' there is a possibility that anything done at the moment will not be saved; not receiving the confirmation email may possibly be an early indication of that.

Can you please let me know my status?

I will resubmit if it hasn't been received.

Re: Still Struggling with the application process

Still no application in the queue for Frankenmuth. If you didn't recieve that confirmation email, then the app won't be in the queue.

If you're using a Hotmail or Yahoo type email account to apply from, and you've got their spam filters turned on, you might want to check in your bulk mail folder. I find that those spam filters on Hotmail and Yahoo sometimes forward legitimate emails into the bulk mail folder and you never see it in your inbox.

Re: Still Struggling with the application process

Thanks for checking Donald. I tried to resubmit my application, but it said that I could only submit one at a time. If there is anything I can do to make the process any easier please let me know. I have my junk mail filters turned off, as I had run into a problem of my mail not filtering correctly in the past. Thanks again.

Sounds like you might have run into the same bug as rfgdxm did I've asked staff to look into it.

Yes, it looks like I am running into that same bug. This is very frustrating. I copied the page, and posted it on my site with the error message I received for an editor's review. The site address is http://www.meta4creations.com/apply.html

Re: Still Struggling with the application process

This does seem to be a strange bug. I had thought that in my case my application had been rejected, but even though it was no longer in the queue the software was saying it was. However, this person stated he never got the confirmation e-mail, and yet the software was telling him his application *was* in the queue. Isn't the way this software works that an application shouldn't enter the queue at all until the confirmation e-mail is responded to? I'd think so, to prevent someone applying as an editor using someone else's e-mail who has no desire to be an editor here. (Or, possibly just applying with an invalid e-mail because of a typo.)

Well, the application must be stored somewhere, until the confirmation email has been answered, so I guess that the status is labelled incorrectly for some applications. I'm sure that the staff programmers will be able to find and correct this sort of bug. I guess there are several 'parts' to the 'queue': applications awaiting confirmation email, apllications confirmed, but awaiting review, and so on.

Re: Still Struggling with the application process

I tried applying again today, and I am still getting the same message. Is there ANYTHING I can do?? Will someone PLEASE look over my application? Does the que use 'email' as it's check field? If so, can I use my work e-mail to signup, and then change it later?

I'm trying to be somewhat patient, but this is pretty frustrating.

hildea said she's asked staff to look into this problem. Please be patient, it should not take too long. And no, changing your e-mail address won't solve the problem

Any luck yet?

Can I apply?

Should I just try and see?

Nope, you're not in the queue.

Are your spam filters still turned off?

Re: Still Struggling with the application process

Okay....I changed the e-mail address (back to my hotmail address), and it worked!!!!!!

I don't think I did anything differently, but I did get the e-mail, and replied to it.
