Guest jacob Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 Hi, I was wondering about the status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equine I had submited it about Aug-20-02 To the following Category, and Subcategory. Was it okay that I submited it to both Category, and its Subcategory please advise, and also any idea on the status of it http://dmoz.org/Business/Agriculture_and_Forestry/Livestock/Horses_and_Ponies/Sales_and_Marketing/ http://dmoz.org/Business/Agriculture_and_Forestry/Livestock/Horses_and_Ponies/Sales_and_Marketing/North_America/United_States/ Thank you for your time
dfy Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi No it wasn't OK. The submission to the Sales_and_Marketing cat just annoyed the editor that had to move it down to the United_States cat, where it is currently waiting for review.
Guest jacob Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi Hi, Thank you for the quick reply to my question. Sorry for the double submission, I had originally submited to United States, a long time ago, and nothing happend, so decided that maybe should have submited to the main category "Sales and Marketing". And I would like to add that this forum is great, as it lets us be corrected, so we would not make the same error in submission again, and waste the editors valuable time. Any idea as how backed up is the United States category that I was moved into? Thank you so much again for your time
dfy Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi It only has a couple of dozen sites waiting for review, but the category hasn't been touched since August. Don't worry though, someone will get round to it eventually.
Guest jacob Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi Hi, I am trying to learn and understand as why my submission in category (A) [sales_and_Marketing] was moved to category © [united_States]. The more I read the description the more I get confused, I read in a forum, that the category location that you submit, should be the location that your place of work is located, but then I see that many sites are located in the Top category (A) [sales_and_Marketing], and sub category (B) [North_America], and their location of work is located in united States I have listed below the top category (A), and its two subcatgories (B)&© for quick comparison My website has a lot of classified ads both from the United States & Canada, but users can post and search for ads in different countries, so the question would be why I could not submit in top category (A) [sales_and_Marketing] or even subcategory © [North_America], when other similar sites had done that, and were accepted. Again want to thank all those editors that are involved in this forum, for seting it up, and let us understand better the submission rules, and other things, so we do not dublicate our mistakes. Wish I had known about this forum, before doing any submission Thank you for your time -------------------------------------- A) http://dmoz.org/Business/Agriculture_and_Forestry/Livestock/Horses_and_Ponies/Sales_and_Marketing/ Category: Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Livestock: Horses and Ponies: Sales and Marketing Open to sites primarily dedicated to horse and pony sales - including classified equine advertising sites not limited to one breed or sporting discipline. Please submit your site to the correct regional area in the sub-categories --------------------------------------- B) http://dmoz.org/Business/Agriculture_and_Forestry/Livestock/Horses_and_Ponies/Sales_and_Marketing/North_America/ Category: Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Livestock: Horses and Ponies: Sales and Marketing: North America Limited to North American sites which are exclusively designed as a sales forum for equine stock and equipment for both the Canadian and US market, including classified advertising, bulletin boards, and regional and national bloodstock auctions. --------------------------------------- C) http://dmoz.org/Business/Agriculture_and_Forestry/Livestock/Horses_and_Ponies/Sales_and_Marketing/North_America/United_States/ Category: Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Livestock: Horses and Ponies: Sales and Marketing: North America: United States Limited to United States sites which are exclusively designed as a multi-owner sales forum for horses and ponies, including classified advertising, bulletin boards, and regional and national bloodstock auctions. Please do not make multiple submissions. Training Stables, Breeding farms, individual owners selling their own horses, and other equestrian sites not strictly limited to multi-owner sales are asked to submit their site to the appropriate category within Sports or Regional
motsa Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi The key part of what you quoted is this: {Category: Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Livestock: Horses and Ponies: Sales and Marketing} Open to sites primarily dedicated to horse and pony sales - including classified equine advertising sites not limited to one breed or sporting discipline. Please submit your site to the correct regional area in the sub-categories Therefore, since your classified listings are for American horses/services, your site belongs in the US subcategory.
Guest jacob Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi Hi, Not really, my site does support ads from other countries, and at the moment, I have a lot of ads from canada. In my advanced search, users can select the country, and it would show all ads from that country only. So still I am confused as why I should be listed in sub_category [united_States] Thanks
Guest jacob Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi Hi, From lack of responce to my last post, It would look that some of the editors agree with me that, description for top category Horses and ponies/sales_marketing and its subcategories are confusing, and there are so many listings that are listed in the wrong category Thanks
Guest jgeorge Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 Re: status of http://www.abcglobalshopper.com/equi As you've been told, the Sales and Marketing category doesn't have its own editor. Therefore, it has to wait until a higher level editor has the time to deal with it. There are SOME sites in the wrong regional category which will be moved in due course. However, just because a site claims to take ads from more than one country, that does not mean it will be listed at a 'higher' level. Almost every ad site in the directory has ads from more than one country - and in some cases from many countries (the U.K. and European sites are flooded regularly with American ads!) When I look at submissions for this category, I look at the site, how it is designed and where the majority of ads come from. If a site has seperate categories for America and Canada, for example, and there are a reasonable numer of Canadian ads, then it will go in the North America category. If the BULK of the ads are American, then it goes in USA. I have looked at your site and searched several of the more likely categories for Canadian ads, and they were very thin on the ground. In my opinion, the site is best placed in United States and that's where it will go when I have a moment or two to deal with the backlog. It does not help when people submit to multiple categories or submit more than once. ODP editors are all volunteers - and we do as much as we can. Nor does it help to e-mail editors saying - this category ONLY has so many sites - how's about doing it. Why should YOUR site's category take precedence over the many other categories with unreviewed sites which that editor may be trying to deal with? And don't assume lack of response in this forum means editors agree with you. Many of us just don't have time to check in here very often (we're too busy trying to deal with our backlogs. )
